AMy..HOpe you read my earlier post. I had SALINES put in 1998. I

was bedridden about 1 year and a half..Go lay in your bed in

silence, in the dark, don't move, and picture HAVING doing that for

a year and a half of your life, because you are so sick and cannot

lift your head up..........it is your choice. You have the FACTS

here. That is all I have to say. Good luck on your decision.

I agree - I had SALINES put in in 1996 - within three years I had 2 additional ops due to complications. Saline shells ARE silicone - I had salines and have silicone deposits distributed all over my body. the shell chips off - the same reactions as silicone to the women they are in. Kaceys implants were saline and look at the picture on the site of her blood under a microscope - full of silicone. The doctor will tell you it is all hype - they want your money. Mine told me the same thing and I believed him just as you are and look where I am now 8 years later. disabled. I have several doctors now that don't think it is hype - they are all stating to believe it other than the plastic surgeons who are making their living off of us. There is a reason why you found this site and there is a reason we all are sharing our private painful stories - ever think maybe this group is your sign from GOD? we are complete strangers who have nothing to monetarily gain by trying to help you but we are still here - even though it doesn't look like you will change your mind. We are still here for support no matter what - if this isn't a sign then I don't know what is. Please think long and hard - most women here have had salines too - not the gels. whatever you do, keep in touch. I have a feeling you will need us before too long and we will be here.

REIMPLANTATION OF SILICONE SHELL DEVICES:

Patients = 130

Patients Reimplanted = 54 (41.6%)

Additional Operations = 106 (1.96 surgeries per woman)

Total devices = 449 (3.45 devices per woman)

ADDITIONAL SURGERY OTHER THAN DEVICE REPLACEMENT:

Patients = 130

Closed capsulectomy only = 20 (15.4%)

Other Procedures = 44 (33.9%)

Total = 64 (49.3%)

130 patients were inventoried. Age at initial implantation ranged from 18 to 65 years with silicone device exposure of 2 to 32 years. The additional surgeries in the second table included: closed capsulectomy, open capsulectomy, drainage of hamatoma, drainage of abscess, revision of scar, repositioning of implant, aspiration of seroma, capsulectomy without removal of device, biopsy of axillary lymph nodes or breast masses, debridement of dermal ulcer, repair of dehiscence, and of course, replacement of one device or a set of devices by one or more newer implants.

The patient observations suggest a limit to the number of chest wall operations a woman can sustain before deformity or restriction of movement occurs.

This study was done in 1998. Dr. Shanklin said the numbers have risen significantly since then. " A device-specific reimplantation rate of 41.6% is simply unacceptable. "
