Guest guest
Where do I find sample waivers to give to our midwives/doctors for upcoming birth so we don't have to sign the hospital waivers when we refuse all the newborn stuff? Are these waivers different than exemption letters? Do I need both? Melinda C. in Mass.

Guest guest
Hi, When my son was born last year, I signed a waiver at the hospital declining the hep.b vaccine. I later signed a wavier with our pediatrician as well. The waiver with our doctor said something like, " I am not giving any immunizations at this time, and I understand about the risks and the diseases. I can't remember much more. When I was in the hospital, I was unaware that this maybe a problem. Does anyone think this may effect our decision later on? One more question, if my children get injured or ill, and I have to bring them to the hospital, being that they are not fully vaccinated, can anything happen???? How would I handle that situation? Thanks, Jen Mumps in Texas? Vaccinations > I took my 4yo and 17 month old to the doctor's today. > > The doctor looked at them and said, " Well, you are up to date on > your > shots, right? Guest guest
First, don't sign anything more, ever! Just say you want to run it past your lawyer first, then take to your scrapers and never look back. Knowledge is power. Have the knowledge regarding your decisions, not so that you can argue with the ignorant - their minds are closed - but so that it is 2nd nature to you, and you know exactly WHY you do or don't do things. How would you LIKE to handle that situation Jen? With knowledge, you can handle it any way you want. Dr's are OK at physical trauma. If we can use adhesive closures now, we won't go to a dr for anything but fractures. So we don't go much even though dh is accident prone. Maracuja Join the Blue Ribbon Online Free Speech Campaign! Guest guest
Here, too. We rarely go to docs. It has to be really serious for me to consider it. My kids are like, " Mom, come one, I need to be seen by someone! " I tell them, " I'm looking, I see you. Have some arnica and we'll see how you are in a little bit. Trust me, I haven't killed any of you yet. " Winnie Re: waivers > > > Hi, > When my son was born last year, I signed a waiver at the > hospital declining the hep.b > vaccine. Guest guest
I've never been asked to sign a waive, but am always asked to fill out a medical record - allergies to medicine, number of siblings, etc. When I get to the question " Are your child's immunizations up-to-date? " or whatever wording they use, I always write " N/A " The wording is always such that if you answer " No, " you are implying that you believe that you have left the immunizations fall behind schedule. If the nurse asks me, then I say that we are delaying the vaccinations at this point. Any information about our immunization status then is filled out by the nurse, in his/her handwriting. Guest guest
Love arnica. I actually got a mom to finally trust me on it when her son got smacked in the face with a baseball yesterday. I usually try to restrain myself, but couldn't with that injury--immediate bruising, swelling... She said, okay, you've been telling me about this for years, okay, okay. Not sure how it all turned out. He just took one dose of 30C and then the game got rained out. Winnie Re: waivers > > > Here, too. We rarely go to docs. Guest guest
Hi - I'm curious - Why would signing a waiver be an inappropriate thing to do? Guest guest
There are moves afoot to make non-vaxing child abuse! Just gives the govt more ammunition. That's whypeople change them to state that they are aware of the dangers of vaccinating, rather than the dangers of NOT vaccinating, but not because their doctor explained it to them. You incriminate yourself by signing any of their papers in their original form. However, if you are really concerned, do run the form past a lawyer, and ask if CPS couyld ever use it against you. Non-vaxing is already being used against parents in custody battles. Maracuja Join the Blue Ribbon Online Free Speech Campaign! Guest guest
I've debated with myself about this very thing, Winnie. What keeps me from giving someone else's child a remedy is worry that if something happened to them, the blame would come back on the remedy (and me). Of course WE know the remedies are safe, but when it comes to someone else's child, if a complication would arise, I'm quite sure it would be MY neck would be on the chopping block and the finger-pointing would be directed toward homeopathy. That's just what I've come up with for me. Maybe being a former registered nurse makes me even more cautious because that would add another layer of blame... That NURSE told me to give this to my child, and now he's having a seizure!! (or whatever) Just my 2 cents. Kay Re: waivers Love arnica. Guest guest
Get a copy of the medical records, it should be in it. If all else fails, just sign and notarize a new one but DO NOT SIGN THE REFUSALS YOUR DOCTOR tries to make you sign....EVER > > From: jen leahy <jenleahy@...> > Subject: Re: Re: waivers > Vaccinations > Date: Monday, June 30, 2008, 2:16 PM > > > > > > > Can anyone recommend a lawyer. Guest guest
It is a tough call. I was once was in a car accident (minor for me) caused by a 90-yr-old blind woman. Her face was so bruised and awful looking--it was all I could do to hold back the arnica while others were tending to her. Then I actually rode in the ambulance with her and was in the same ER room. It was terrible, knowing she could have desperately used it. The few times I feel compelled to offer it, I usually just ask if the parents ever use it. If the answer is no, I say " well then forget it, I just happen to have some on me. I always use it on my kids but I'm sure you wouldn't be comfortable with it unless you knew more. " Now I hear, " oh, that's right, I remember you telling me about this. What is it? Where can I buy it? How does it work? I should really get some. " (I spend a lot of time at baseball, lacrosse, football, hockey, basketball, etc. with four boys so it does come up a lot). Re: waivers > > Love arnica.
