Guest guest
To all you ladies who have been to at least 100 doctors and have had 1000 tests come up negative and have been told 10000 times that there is nothing wrong with you... I have the same story, but finally in November 2003, the Good Lord directed me to a doc who actually believed me. After running many tests that most docs have never heard of and sending me to a handfull of experts in rheum and neuro who said I had FM and was depressed, he sent two tubes of my blood to the Human Genome Project at The University of Oklahoma. On Monday the results were in and he was pleased to report that I now have OBJECTIVE EVIDENCE of an autoimmune disease process in my body, despite being negative on almost every test now used to test for these diseases. Apparently, my Interlukin 4 and Interlukin 12 was very elevated!!! The University called him and said they were very interested in me. They said that they had never seen these two immune responses activated at the same time. I guess one is supposed to counteract the other, so that both were elevated was very significant. I don't understand the whole thing, but he did of course. He said that we (he and I) were finally vindicated because we now had proof that something was truly causing all of my CRAZY symptoms! I was so excited just to have evidence and to finally know that I am not a crazy lady. Also, since he disputed the diagnosis of the other docs, he now had proof that he was correct and they were wrong... Suposedly researchers (including my doc) are now looking for autoimmune disease markers that show up months to years before the traditional tests come up positive. That way, they hope to treat the illness before organs are damaged. I guess once the traditionally searched for antibodies are discovered, organ damage has already occurred. It is a long story, but I figured I would share this part of it because it could possibly make some of you feel better knowing that there IS EVIDENCE of the illnesses we have, the technology is just now being discovered. Take care and be patient, some day there will be a cure for us!! Ann
Guest guest
Hi Ann, I have been researching the "CURE" for autoimmune disease and they are getting closer as we speak. Right now they are doing clinical trials for curing diabetes I by taking out white blood cells and finding out what medication and the dosage that kills the errant cells and then they say the body naturally makes new healthy cells from our own stem cells after the bad cells are gone. Kind of like a stem cell transplant but without the dangerous side efrfects of suppressing the whole immune system, they just kill the bad cells.. So far it has cured diabetes in animal trials 95%. They think it will work for all autoimmune diseases and will take three years to complete. You can go on the ADRF web site and it explains it better than I can. I hope we all get cured and live a healthy life. Love Judi
