Guest guest
This is from the OT4VAX group but I think it bears repeating here! This guy is an ally if he can keep his foot out of his mouth! " This does NOT in any way pardon or condone what he said about autism. I think that was completely ignorant and stupid, and generally I don't care for the guy AT ALL, but this post from a friend on another web group does have some interesting info about him. Used with her permission. " Thanks for posting this. I have been wanting to comment on this topic, but was not sure the best way to approach it. I'm not a fan of Savage, but as a political junkie and talk radio fan (crazies to the left and right, I've heard it all!), I do listen to him occasionally on my drive home. The irony is that Dr. Savage's phd in nutritional medicine, his books on homeopathy and treating childhood ailments through proper disciplined nutrition, and his family history with the now-deceased brother... all add up to make him a valuable resource in the discussion of ADD, ADHD, and autism. It's mind-boggling to think. How did this go so wrong? His real name is Weiner, and he holds the following degrees: B.A., education and sociology; M.S., medical botany and medical anthropology; Ph.D., nutritional ethnomedicine. (He speaks occasionally about his world travels and studies during graduate school, studying medicinal plants and herbs and nutrition and such, not just regular nutrition.) The other night I happened to be driving home when he went on a tangent about alternative medicine. He was praising free-thinking individualists who mistrust the establishmentarianism of the AMA and big pharma, and choose to research and embrace alternative medicine. He specifically raved about homeopathy, of which I am a proponent. I was thinking... Wow! I listen to crazy talk radio on the left and right and anywhere in between, but I've never heard this kind of talk! Hurray! Many of us here know that people with Dr. Savage's opinions (but much more palatable approach!) have been shouting this stuff from the mountaintops for years. But if no one is on the mountain to hear it (except for some of us crunchy types), they are just shouting into the wind. Fortunately, Dr. Savage's mountain is covered with listeners, so when he shouts people hear it. Am I condoning his hurtful and abrasive tactics? NO WAY. Am I applauding the fact that people are talking about this topic? Oh yes. " P.S. Don't be scared away by some of the other stuff on the link. There's just no way to sugar coat this guy.
