Guest guest
Hi Sheri! She finally came the morning of 07/21. After waiting an additional 6 days, she was in a *hurry* to get out. I woke up, still no contractions at around 2a and had the sudden urge to call my midwife. Of course, no water broke no contractions she encouraged me to get back to sleep and call when my water broke. I felt so strongly like I had to go to the bathroom and 30 minutes later my water broke while I was still on the toilet (horaay for not ruining the bed!). So I call back and she says once again that I should get some rest. While on the phone the contractions started - she stated they were 4 minutes apart lasting 20 seconds. " Impressive " for a first time Mom. She told me to get back in bed and get as much rest as I could before coming. So I tried that, was totally unable to get comfortable and then the strawberries I snacked on earlier in the night decided to come back up. Woke up Dh and the soon to be Grandmom just after that around 3:30a, and we took the hour drive to the birth center around 4a. I labored on my hands and knees in the back seat, with my head in Dh's lap - very comfortable considering. Towards the end of the car ride I swear I felt a little nose in my birth canal - and it was getting so I wasn't able to not push at the end of each contraction which was kinda painful. We got there, I stood up and promptly decided I despised gravity. As I was helped into the birthing center, the baby started crowning... all of 15 minutes after we arrived, Rose was born and in my arms (with dh and I exchanging " I love yous " as she was deliered). We went home a few hours later after I was stitched up (I'm still a little glum I didn't get there early enough for the massage and hot compresses that were supposed to help me stretch - I ended up with 3 tears total). 2.75 hours was far to abrupt for me - I woke up the next day in my own bed wondering when I'd wake up from my dream and get the 16 hour average labor I was lectured about. Yet from what other mothers have told me, I was likely ready to push when my water broke. I think that would have been even more shocking! I'm told I shouldn't complain. I doubt the process would have been any less shocking if it took 48 hours though - the baby I got used to being in my stomach was now in my arms. I think my next one will have to be a homebirth as they say the second labor is quicker! is very healthy, received no vax, no Vit K and no eye goop. Didn't need O2 or other interventions. Was soo alert at birth (thanks to no painkillers for me) and shortly thereafter decided to nurse - grabbing at my nipple and popping it into her mouth. I was stunned, and the midwives said they never saw anything like that before. Her metabolic testing was done at day 5? and came back two days later - all completely normal. We already have her blue card. She loves her sleep, doesn't cry unless she's hungry or wet and has a fantastic personality. She's intrigued by shadows and has just started to notice things more than a foot from her face. She often looks like she's contemplating the meaning of the world... I'm told I " lucked " out. <G> Thanks for letting me yammer on!! -Lana " There is nothing more useful than sun and salt. Guest guest
What a great birth story. Yea if I were you I would plan on a home birth. Look into a an aqua doula. You'll love it. We had to keep draining ours and filling it up again because our baby took longer. I thought he was comming sooner and wanted everything ready. at least I got to soak in it several times by candle light before the actual birth. Diane > She finally came the morning of 07/21. Guest guest
How wonderful! I only wish mine went like that! I had a c-section :-( I really hope for my next baby I can go all natural and have a midwife. I am so afraid of the unknown in it all and the pain, oh the pain! > > > Congrats on the new baby! > > Tell us more! Guest guest
I just love stories like this it reminds me why we all keep going with what we¹re doing. Congratulations Lana on your new, healthy, unvaccinated baby. May you get great pleasure from each other throughout the years and yes, it is shocking to have such a quick birth (my second was 2 hours from first contraction to delivery and I was left wondering where this beautiful baby actually came from LOL) but it¹s certainly better than the alternative. All the best, Meryl > > . > >
Guest guest
I know it isn't the same for everyone - but the pain really wasn't that bad... at least not compared to my prior endometriosis and mercury poisoning (beyond severe kidney pain). I did have one moment, right after my labor started and my contractions were 4 minutes apart that I did think: " So THIS is why women get a needle jammed into their spine... " and then I *laughed* at myself after I thought " I wonder if Tylenol would do anything " . Did it hurt? Yes. Was it so bad it was worth the fear so commonly attached to labor? No. It waxes and wanes, ebbs and flows - in the end the breaks aren't long but they exist (VERY unlike the chronic kidney pain I had with the mercury poisoning). You just breathe through it, maybe scream through it (that really made me feel better, although it scared the bejezus outta my Mom). I'm a firm believer that in the end it is fear that amplifies pain. -Lana " There is nothing more useful than sun and salt. Guest guest
Thanks so much everyone! And Meryl, that is exactly how I've felt about it. The whole experience was totally surreal, and still is to some degree (she's too well behaved to be a baby!) -Lana " There is nothing more useful than sun and salt. Guest guest
Lana, I wanted to say how awesome that you handled such an experience! I had my first and only child in a hospital and tried soooooo hard to not want the damn epidural but I couldn't handle the pain much less even relax to let nature take its course. I recently told my husband how I would love to be able to have a homebirth......needless to say he laughed and said " there are no drugs at home to ease the pain " . I couldn't blame him for that, but let me just say this it is a dream for me and you are truly an inspiration to me! God bless you and that little bundle of joy! Much Love, Rina Rina Barillas > (my second was 2 hours from > first contraction to delivery and I was left wondering where this beautiful > baby actually came from LOL) but it¹s certainly better than the > alternative. > > All the best, > Meryl
