Staff selection for the UNODC system in India

Dear Forum Members,

Looking up to the decades-long functioning of UNDCP (currently UNODC), we all

know that this UN organ is managed, manipulated and overshadowed by few Indians

who hailed from the metros or major cities of the country, as much as the UNODC

itself is under the dictat of US in the international arena.

No competent person/s had ever been selected for posts which required

region-specific skills and experience, like the UNODC staffs dealing with North

east India region. Rather the few 'hard-core' staffs from the metros had been

pressing so hard that only indians from outside the NE region had been

recruited so far.

But the fact is that there are more than enough skilled and experienced persons

in the NE region who are eligible to take up the jobs. In the recent recruitment

drama, we all know that some of the UNODC staff made a declaration in the North

east India that the post of coordinator has been advertised just as to do the

formality but in fact the post had already been selected in traditional

back-door-system of india (in which UNODC is trapped now).

The declaration discouraged a lot number of persons to opt for the vacancy and

compounded in loosing confidence in the UN system in India. It is time that UN

office have a critical review of the situation instead of thinking of a

convincing reply to this letter.
