Guest guest
I have always felt so guilty, & even more so now after learning more, about giving tylenol for a period of time after my daughter was born. She had heart surgery at 4 days old & was on so many different things - medicines & pain relivers while in the hospital. She was a couple weeks preemie & we were also dealing w/ learning about s Syndrome which she was diagnosed w/ at birth. She was not vaxed, as I became more educated about that before I gave birth, but did not yet know about thet eye goop or vit.k. We stayed w/ her almost the entire time, except during the surgery of course, & for a short period 2x while my husband wanted me to go home & shower/change, but we came right back immediately after. They did give her a synagis shot, during that time I was gone, & I was furious, but what could I do after she was already injected w/ it. When we took her home a few days after surgery, we were to give her tylenol for the pain - which I honestly think is only for the benefit of making the parents feel as if they are doing something to make the baby comfortable. i never felt that she was relieved from the pain of the surgery & each nursing was unbearably scary, for fear of hurting her more. I also believe the synagis shot caused her a severe reaction, beacause she became " text-book GERD " (while having no symptoms of the sort in the hospital before the synagis shot when we took her home. She would have coughing/choking fits where she was screaming & crying & throwing up constantly. We would have to clear her mouth/throat from the mucos (almost thick like a golf ball size) or she would choke on it & stop breathing for a couple seconds. I couldn't sleep because I was afraid she would die & wouldn't be able to help her & driving anywhere was also a nightmare because we were constantly pulling over. It was completely horrible. We were exhasted & didn't know how else to help her. It makes me so angry that we grow up thinking we can just trust the Dr.'s & they will do everything in the best interest of our children. Don't get me wrong- without them, my baby would have died in her sleep while I held her the night after I gave birth to her if it wasn't for the surgery & I will be forever grateful, but basically after that, we were on our own & all the problems we had to face after, I believe were from all the trama & intervention she recieved in the hospital & being so young. > > I used to work in a hospital pharmacy.
