Guest guest
I don't know of anything to do for it...I'm interested to see what others suggest! My 8 month is currently taking antibiotics for an ear infection. She has never had any shots and this is her second ear infection. -------------- Original message from " jennameez " <thompson@...>: -------------- My 19 month old son has had a fever for two days and is VERY fussy. He wakes up every two hours or so at night wimpering and wants to cuddle all day. My first thought was the flu but there are no other symptoms. I am wondering now if it might be an ear infection. He's never been vaxed so I know that it's not as likely, and he hasnt had a cold lately, which usually comes before an ear infection. I dont want to take him to the dr to find out since they'll just want to put him on antibiotics, which are not good for him. Any suggestions? Guest guest
I also wanted to add that I do know that I could take him to a chiropractor as they are able to cure ear infections, if that's what it is. But the nearest one that is somewhat homeopathic is over an hour away and I dont want to drive that far with a sick baby if I dont have to. > > I don't know of anything to do for it...I'm interested to see what others suggest! I am wondering now if it might be an ear infection. I would suggest to watch him closely and see if he improves in the next day or two. If not, i'd take him to pediatrician just to be safe. Even if he/she prescribes something, remember, you don't have to do it. Katarina
Guest guest
Hi Jess, An ear infection will resolve itself as quickly as it will on antibiotics. And vitamin C will clear it up quicker. My allopathic doctor has always made the statement, " an ear infection will disappear in about 7 days with antibiotics, a week without. " I once took antibiotics for an ear infection, due to the fact I had to make a plane flight. I then had at least 4 more recurring ear infections following that. For any infections since, I have taken vitamin c, as per Sherri's instructions sent to the list, and it has always cleared in 2-3 days. If you are breast feeding, then you can use breastmilk to treat. Even most allopaths will admit that antibiotics should not be used for ear infections. Unfortunately some doctors like to prescribe them for anything and everything. And as mothers, we think that we are doing the best thing for our children listening to a doctors advice. I am just lucky mine seems to respect and support my natural approach to health. Not that we ever see him, lol. Anyway, I am sure this will have already been said. My emails are coming through all higgledy piggledy, even getting messages that were posted over a week back. And many of mine are not coming through for a few days. Guest guest
I have never had that concern mentioned to me. Not by any doctor. However I have seen it mentioned in articles. Never heard of it actually happening. Which makes me feel it is probably just propaganda. But I am far from an expert on the subject, can only go by my personal experience. Others here may have more to add. Fieldman Re: What to do for an ear infection > > I don't know of anything to do for it...I'm interested to see what > others suggest! Guest guest
Take him to the chiropractor. I was just telling my husband this story, then I saw your post: Today I went to my chiro for my normal weekly adjustment. I had a little ear irritation this morning, but was so busy I shrugged it off. When I got on the table today, he touched my neck at the base of my ear and I almost came off of the table... it was VERY sore! I mentioned that, and he said " Yep, you have infection all in here " and he rubbed the length of my neck under my ear where the infection was settled. He had me feel it -- it was very swollen. He proceeded to work on my neck and shoulder, then jerked on my ear, which popped -- he's done this with my son before, but I've never had it done. I was so shocked... talk about INSTANT relief! The swelling and soreness is completely gone now, and my adjustment was only 2 1/2 hours ago. I don't know why I was so shocked, except that I wasn't expecting the pop when he pulled my ear! LOL It didn't hurt at all... The chiro has gotten rid of my son's ear problems that effectively before, too. Also, garlic oil in the ear works well (can find at Whole Foods or a health food store), or read this info for using an onion to treat ear infection that I posted a couple weeks ago: http://f1.grp.fs.com/v1/EAcJSaQ2FXRt31oirymuAqDUn13eJ5ecqkE16sR_4RV6jVnIuFJ\ TQUTuRnJ2K1KGyfZv0H8vpF6CMEhCpjlpalfcVvsmXyU/OnionforEaraches.pdf If that link didn't work, here's a tiny url: http://tinyurl.com/5c8l69 Hope your kiddo feels better soon. Guest guest
You can use the doctor to diagnose and just not take their recommendations for antibiotics. Is he pulling at his ear? It might be something else, stomach, teeth, etc. I second the Vit. C. For little guys I use a liquid that Twin Labs makes that is not too sour--mix it in juice. I also would give him Larix, a powder that also mixes in juice IF it's an ear infection. Best to try homeopathy. Are you familiar with it? Guest guest
When I was a kid just about the only natural remedy that was ever used on me was for ear infections (everything else got antibiotics and lots of them). It is a vinegar wash - I think it was 1 part vinegar to 3 parts warm water. I remember it feeling really good. Nowadays when my ears get sore, I just use saline or a saline/peroxide mix. -Lana
Guest guest
Good morning , I discussed your email with my husband. $383 is a bit more than we wanted to pay. the down payment is doable, but committing to that payment for 3 yrs with a new baby (we were paying $394 for the BMW X3- that is why we got out of it) is a bit scary. I am not sure if there is anything else in terms of options that can be worked out at this point. We would love to come in to talk to you but do not want to waste your time so you let me know if there are other options we can explore. Guest guest
Thanks to everyone for your advice. I took him in to the Chiropractor this morning. Last night he was waking up every 10 minutes so I knew we couldnt let this go on. He said that it's not an ear infection, but he does have a viral infection close to the ears. He adjusted him and gave me a homeopathic medicine called Virex. I hope this helps.

Guest guest
Since you are nursing, you can up your intake of Vit. C and your nursling will get it through your milk. I take 2000 mg/day for my nursling. If either the baby or I get sick I up to 3000 mg per day with no problems. To dose yourself, gradually increase your own intake and stop and back off a bit once you start experiencing loose bowels. Sorry to hear your daughter was still having discomfort, but I'm glad you went to the chiro. Chiros are certainly worth their weight in gold! Keep us updated on how she's doing. Guest guest
Hi Jess, I used to just dip my finger in the sodium ascorbate, and put it in my babies mouth every few hours. She didn't seem to mind. Or mix some into her food. I have just got up, and still need to wake properly. But I will send one of Sheri's post on dosage etc. It is important that the vitamin C is in Sodium ascorbate form. Bear with me, and I will get back to you with the info, as soon as my eyes open properly. I have neck and shoulder pain (need to visit chiro desperately), so pretty much just laid in bed most of the night tossing and turning. It is sometimes hard to know if your child is in a life or death situation. I know, you can't tell me what to do. But, how would you handle that with your kids? Bring down the fever and possible infection with homeopathic remedies and vitamin supplementation. When would you break down and take your child to the emergency room? What would you consider life and death situations for the use of antibiotics. This would help clarify it in my mind. correy PS I bet your family is very grateful for you and your knowledge. Good luck to your family. I hope your dad will be ok. I hope you keep us posted! Guest guest
You ask yourself what would the emergency room docs do. If there is a fever, they will likely give both Tylenol and Advil. If an ear infection, they will prescribe antibiotics and convince you that your child might get meningitis if you don't give them to him/her. If you don't want those treatments, don't go unless you are very strong and can say no thanks, I just wanted a diagnosis and I'll do it my way. I do that, but not everyone is as sure of what else they'll do. I have a whole stock of natural meds at home. I draw the line at pneumonia and will take them in if I am really alarmed over lethargic behavior. I will get the antibiotics for that. I'd be interested to know others' limits, too. Guest guest
I don't know where I would draw the line. It is hard for me to say, but I know that if I had any fears about something, I would definately go the course of antibiotics. The thing is, my kids just don't get sick, so I have never been put in that position. I am lucky that we have a healthy family history. ie: no chronic illness whatsoever. So that really helps. Plus going by my medical records, I had very few vaccines. We also live rural, and have the advantage of growing our own food, avoiding tap water, breathing clean air. So you could say, that the measures I take to avoid illness really have paid off. We also have very little sugar in our diet. If my children get a cut or sore of some sort. I usually cover it with a bandaid smothered in honey. The antibiotic properties pretty much take away any redness, and the covering can be taken off, so the wound heals in fresh air usually the same day. Sometimes they may get a fever, and a runny nose etc. Occasionally there may be the need for a day off school to spend in bed and rest. But I have never had to deal with anything whatsoever that has made me fearfull. I have one child almost 10, and another 3 1/2. The 10 year old did get vaccinated to schedule up to 18 months. They did get chicken pox once. But other than the sores, you wouldn't know it. Another trick is black pepper. My grandfather has paper thin skin, takes blood thinners and bleeds very easily. He just puts black pepper on it, the bleeding stops, and healing starts. There are so many alternatives all around us. But we are slowly being conditioned to forget all these things, so that greedy people can make more money at the expense of our health. At the end of the day, prevention is far better than a cure. Hopefully, I will never have to consider any treatments the allopaths provide. Fieldman Re: What to do for an ear infection You ask yourself what would the emergency room docs do. Guest guest
Is he better yet? If not, liquid garlic (room temp or slightly warm) in ear fixes our kids ears every time. Never had to take any medication - and I probably would have just to stop the pain if it got too bad. A couple have had recurring earaches, but when I say recurring, it is like a year later. I have only had to administer the garlic twice in a row once before they were better.I have them lay on my lap so I can hold their head still, drop in several drops, contain it with a cotton ball - tickle back, read story or let them watch a video to keep them still for about 10 minutes. THen I wipe out the outer ear and it's done. I would also give him extra vit c in a banana/pineapple (or something like that) smoothie. Lastly, or really 1st, I would eliminate milk. My son who was scheduled for tubes can now hear completely after going off milk. (Now we use raw milk and it doesn't affect his ears, so we are thrilled about it) > > My 19 month old son has had a fever for two days and is VERY fussy. Guest guest
I believe someone asked about health of non-vaxed. My never vaxed 3yr dd's been ill 3 times. Once last year with a 105 fever that lasted a day or two, then lowered to 100-101 for a week. (I did give her some Tylenol a few nights.) We were out of town. Never went to a dr. In July she had roseola (Again, 105 fever for several days, then it lowered when she got the spots. Whole thing lasted less than a week.) Didn't go to a dr. Over New Year's she had a 105 fever for almost a week. She was VERY, VERY lethargic and really only drank water for days. Slept a lot and wanted to be near me 24/7. I gave her echinacea and vitamins and oil of oregano and took her to the chiro almost everyday. I gave her a small amount of Tylenol after a few days when she became restless. It was a little scary, but the support of the chiro helped ease my mind. After the first week, my dad talked me into seeing a dr. By then she was feeling much better. For some reason he got to me. (I wish I would have been in this group then!) Dr said she had ear infections ( " her ears are as red as your shirt " ) and gave script for antibiotic. I did actually giver her a few days worth, then stopped. I think I got my sanity back. What was I thinking?? She was getting BETTER!! already! Looking back, as my dh ended up having pneumonia about a week or so after she became ill, I think she had pneumonia. We managed through it and I'm grateful I trusted my instincts (not including the loss of sanity for a bit). I'm sure the hospital would have had a field day with her, instead of letting her body fight it and rest at home with her mommy. I also think the chiro adjustments and no vaxs are what helps her body fight better. Other then these she's never been ill or had any problems. She had a minor speech delay, which now I see could have been from the ultrasound I had with her?? or could have just been in her make-up since it wasn't severe by any means. I was wondering, though. Are ear infections bacterial or viral? If they're viral, antibiotics won't do anything anyhow, right? Dd saw ped just before 12mo visit (which was her last official ped appt to date) and the ped said her ears looked a little red (after looking twice) and gave rx for antibiotic. When I questioned her, she was not too happy. Dd acted fine, wasn't pulling on her ears or anything. So we went to the chiro. Also, what can I give her instead of Tylenol? I wasn't trying to lower her temp, since she seems to get a 105 temp easy and I know that's her body fighting off whatever it is, but I want something easy to help her relax and rest. I'm not really sure of my limits. I was pushed pretty far back in January, but I really lean on my chiro's knowledge for this. I know they would not steer me wrong. I prayed a lot when she just laid with me. It was very scary, but I felt it was best for her. No one wants to see their babies not well. I hope not to have to deal with anything like that again. FYI - I've had friend's threatened with having DCFS called on them for not following dr's orders when in the hosp!! Or by even making a comment like, " I wish I could just grab her and run out the door. " Unbelieveable! Not to change the subject, but Monday I was in the hospial with severe pains by my left kidney. They found calcium deposits in both kidney's, but aren't sure why I'm having such severe pain. I was given 2 bags of fluids and I've been drinking about 100oz water/day and started echinacea Wednesday. The pain's not as intense, but not sure what else to do except stay off my feet (not so easy w/3yr old). I'm 29 weeks pregnant. The midwife called to prescribe antibiotic for group beta strep (which I already know I've tested positive for), but I'm taking the echinacea instead. Anyone have knowledge of this?? Thanks. Sorry this was sooooo long. > > > >Hi Sheri! > > > > > > > >Under what circumstances would you suggest antibiotics.
