What to do for an ear infection

My 19 month old son has had a fever for two days and is VERY fussy. He

wakes up every two hours or so at night wimpering and wants to cuddle

all day. My first thought was the flu but there are no other

symptoms. I am wondering now if it might be an ear infection. He's

never been vaxed so I know that it's not as likely, and he hasnt had a

cold lately, which usually comes before an ear infection. I dont want

to take him to the dr to find out since they'll just want to put him on

antibiotics, which are not good for him. Any suggestions?
