Guest guest
Are you still BF? Breast milk (topical) would help. Also revert to mostly nursing until healed. If not, diluted veg juice fast would help build immunity so the bacteria find a hostile environment, or check out Weston A Price website http://www.westonaprice.org/children/recipes.html for recipe for a good quality home made formula. Excuse my ignorance - I have sons & grandson and have never heard of fused labia. Why? Royal jelly is meant to be a potent antibacterial (including detrimental strep) due to its royalisin content. Oregano oil too but that would need major dilution on sensitive area. The usnic acid in a lichen called usnea is anti strep. You can get it from an herbalist in either fluid extract or tincture. I've heard of various indigenous people using specific lichens on wounds - one is Usnea florida. there are others. All the best, Maracuja From: jlissa4767 <melissadeveer@...> Subject: Strep infection alternative treatments??? Vaccinations Date: Thursday, November 20, 2008, 5:34 PM I know, I know this is OT, but, of course, I haven't joined that group yet (pending approval, though:)) and could really use an answer asap!!! My daughter (3yo) has a strep infection in her, um, " female " area. However, it's not inside b/c her labia are still completely fused, so it's hanging out in the area directly around it and in front of it plus a bunch of bumps on her bum. She's had it for over a week (finally got a dx last Friday), and I'm desperately trying to avoid antibiotics and Bactroban b/c I know they'll only provide temporary relief - even the dermatologist was so concerned about her getting a yeast infection from them that she also wrote a script for Vusion ointment. So far, I've tried several homeopathic remedies - some with great progress only for it to come flaring back - others turned out not to be right. I started using olive leaf extract on it yesterday and giving it to her internally b/c I'm so tired of watching her in pain and want to get rid of it!!! She finally had her first full night of rest last night and didn't wake up shrieking in pain after taking Rhus tox, so I was certain we'd found the remedy. Unfortunately, it spread just a little further this afternoon and started really bothering her again, despite re- dosing. Any suggestions/ help would be greatly appreciated! !! Guest guest
How was this diagnosed? I give Vit. C and Larix for any infections. Not sure if you should do the Larix and olive leaf at the same time, though. I think it's encouraging that the olive leaf and Rhus Tox did help. The thing is with homeopathics, you are supposed to stop at the first sign of it working. You don't give more as it could have a negative effect. Sometimes the condition gets a little worse before it gets better so I would wait on redosing with the Rhus Tox and keep up with the olive leaf. You might need a different homeopathic remedy. I wouldn't play around with it as this is a sensitive area and strep can be a problem. Do you have an alternative doc? Winnie Strep infection alternative treatments??? Guest guest
A dermatologist - my ob's wife b/c I brought her with me to my monthly check-up (I'm pregnant), and he suggested she look at it instead of him. I decided to let her culture it to know for sure and got a call on Tuesday that it is in fact strep. The closest I have to help with " alternative " medicine is a lady that's been studying up on homeopathy for 20+ years. She doesn't call herself a homeopath, but helps whoever wants to call her. She's over an hour away, so hasn't actually seen dd, but I was able to find pics on-line to give her a visual of what we're dealing with. DD just had her second night of completely restful sleep and has yet to complain, so I do now think I'm on the right track with the olive leaf and Rhus Tox - I was just getting frustrated with so little improvement after over a week of working on it!!! It's apparently not all that common, so I'm having a hard time finding any other proven effective treatments that are NOT antibiotics, etc. As far as re-dosing, the ladies I consult (I also have a friend using homeopathy close by that introduced me to it and the homeopath contact) both follow the lower potency and only increase if needed rule, so I'm only using a 30X right now. If there's any re-lapse, she recommends re-dosing and giving it some more time to work. I've never heard of Larix. What's in it?? Thanks for your response! > > How was this diagnosed? > > I give Vit. Guest guest
No, way beyond what my body can handle being pregnant! I drop well below 100 lbs trying to nurse and be pregnant. Apparently fused labia are not uncommon, just used to not be noticed as much. Although, I believe the soy products, etc don't help! They push premarin creams and even surgery sometimes to get them open - or you could just wait for puberty to get the hormones to the right level. The only complication they claim is very common if you leave them fused is bladder infections. She's had one, and it was b/c of a pee- strike last spring well after she'd been potty trained and was just being stubborn one day (like they say, little ones only find they can control their potty-issues and what they'll actually consume). Poor kid paid dearly for it! I've never heard of royal jelly or usnea; I'll look into it more and see what we have around here. As for oil of oregano, I've been putting a few drops in her bath water - it's the only place she finds relief when the pain gets bad. One day/night she took 8!! Whatever works to ease her pain, and I alternated using oil of oregano in one bath then Calendula tincture in the next. I'm also alternating using Calendula gel and olive leaf extract mixed with water into a paste on the area after she goes to the restroom and/or before nap and bed time. Thanks for taking the time to respond! On Nov 21, 2008, at 6:39 AM, Maracuja wrote: > Are you still BF? Breast milk (topical) would help. Also revert to > mostly nursing until healed. Guest guest
Okay, so you're on the right track and you're not doing it on your own. I would keep on with what you're doing, but try to add in some Vit C, too. Will your daughter drink EmergenC? Larix is a substance from larch trees. It comes in a powder form that's easy to give to kids (those who will drink suspicious grainy things in their juice, anyway!). I use Eclectic Institute's product. You can get it in natural food stores or online. I like vitacost.com's prices best. Larix is great for ear, chest, urinary tract infections--I imagine for most infections. Some people use it as an immune system booster even when they're not sick, although I don't because it's pricey. Guest guest
Heavens, the poor little girl! Poor Mum too, as it must be such a worry! Thank you for educating me. I'm often aware of how little I know! The more I learn, the more I'm aware of my own ignorance! Do you have a local breast milk bank that might let you have some? Royal jelly is used by bees to feed potential queens in the hive - a potent superfood. It is expensive in NZ, don't know if it's the same in the US & UK. Very sweet - kids love it! All the best to you, Maracuja > Are you still BF? Breast milk (topical) would help. Also revert to > mostly nursing until healed. Guest guest
Very cool! Anything sweet is good by my kids. There are a couple of herbal-type stores around here, so I'll see if I can locate some at one of them. Yes, it's been a rough few weeks: she's gone from chickenpox to fever blister (her first) to either tonsillitis or strep throat (not sure which b/c Mercurius worked, so we didn't visit the doc!) to this infection - all of which cleared really quickly with homeopathic remedies 'til this. She's my partially vaxed child, though, and seems to get much more than my 19- month-old, and I think along with these illnesses and some of the underlying work some of the remedies she took, she's also having some cleansing from these - which long-term is great! Short-term, however, we're all miserable. I'm learning so much about so many different things from everyone on this board! Just sharing the different experiences/issues helps us all for later should we encounter it or have someone come to us with it needing help. Thanks for sharing> > > Heavens, the poor little girl!
