Guest guest Posted November 20, 2008 Report Share Posted November 20, 2008 ok, my children are 7 months old, when they were born (preemie) i was in the hospital for 3 weeks myself while they were in the nicu and i got all the doc talk, you need this and this and this shot and they HAVE to have it to go to school, so of course before they were out of the nicu they got there shots, and they got them for about 4 months.. then we moved into the basement of my husbands uncle house and he as a vaccine injured child. so i started doing my own research and have now opted out of giving shots... of course being a new mom and having docs down your throat i look up stuff on shot before i go in to ease my mind of saying no and to have a little KNOWLEDGE for the docs.... ha ha ha... i love being the smart one in the room... lol.. so my reason for is there any hope..... my sister had her baby 3 months after me, and i love my little niece and my sister, she is 16 and still lives with my mother... my sister and i had the vaccine talk when i started doing my research and she had also decided NOT to give trinity any more shots well yestarday they went to the doctor and my sister was going to say no again, they gave her the papers and gave her and my mother the speech about how they are not HARMFULL and how they HAVE TO HAVE them when she starts school, and my MOTHER and SISTER finially gave in and (my mother being the culprit) trinity got her 4 month old shots DTaP Hib Polio (IPV) Pneumococcal (PVC) Rotavirus not only that my mother said they caught her up on the 3 months that she missed which added a hep b....OMG!!!! so i just got off the phone with my mother and we got into the i let you guys get your shots and you are fine and i got mine, i was trying to tell her that there are way MORE shots now then 45-60 years ago when her and my grandmother got them... i also pulled the grandma lived through the polio and all that stuff and didn't get a vaccine and she is fine... and why give a polio vaccine they are not in a third world country and how the only cases that are known now are from the ones that GOT the shot... well it was a never ending battle, she pulled the " do you know anybody that is injured from this..? Probably the best book is Dr Mendelsohn's book called " How to Raise a Healthy Child - in Spite of Your Doctor. " There might be a chance they will listen, but you may have to accept that they won't. You can lead a horse to water... My family had a very graphic illustration of vaccine dangers thrust right under their noses when my son suffered brain injury nearly 35 years ago. Thus, the rest of the family didn't vaccinate. Neither did the neighbours. But don't give up hope. There are always opportunities to educate without being pushy, unless they really are adamant about not wanting to hear the truth. How lucky YOUR child is that you found out about vaccine injury. Guest guest Posted November 20, 2008 Report Share Posted November 20, 2008 You really have two issues going on here, one dealing with your family over your decision not to vax, and another with your sister. Don't bother getting into it with your mom. You won't win, and it will just make her want to control your sister more, since that seems to be working nicely for her already! Just let it go--easy to say, I know, but as your child gets older it won't be as much of an issue. I would speak with your sister privately. Tell her (nicely) if she's old enough to be a mother, she's old enough to take her baby to the doc's herself--and to make her own decisions. That includes vaccinating, if she wants to. Offer to drive her, in case your mom is her only way to get around. I can't imagine being a mom at 16, let alone going up against a doc by myself. She's lucky to have you on her side. Explain to her that you don't need to vaccinate a 4-month old for school five years from now. If she did decide to vaccinate at that time, she has plenty of time to catch up the shots. It is NOT required to do them on the recommended schedule. You do NOT have to make the decision right then and there at the checkups. Neil 's first book, " Vaccines: Are They really Safe and Effective? " is pretty easy reading and packed full of info that she might find convincing. Good luck, I know it's frustrating. Just keep pushing gently, and maybe you'll get through to your sister.
