better to have or not to have

If I were you, I would not file one with the authorities but would write a

letter and have it notarized to be kept in your possession should the need for

it ever arise. And also that way, if something ever happened to you

(because we never really know do we?) your wishes would be clearly written and

legally binding hopefully.

For someone who plans to homeschool (i.e. - doesn't NEED an exemption for

school per say) ... do you think it would be better to have an exemption form

on hand " just in case " or not to have one at all? It seems fairly easy to

obtain in my state, but I do have to provide birth certificates, proof of

residence, and some say SSN, etc so my point is that it is easily tracked. Do

you

think it is better to be " on their radar " so to speak but have an exemption in

hand should anything ever come up or just not to have one? I worry about not

having one should anything come up where we are questioned about it but I

also worry about having one in the case of the state basically having a list of

people who have exemptions and that being tracked easily, kinda big

brotherish should anything come up in the future where they want to force

vaccines or

something crazy.

Any opinions would be great!

Good idea.

I don't know who you'd file with anyway if you're homeschooling (except for,

where is it Calif. where they require it for homeschoolers?). But you might want

to give a copy to whomever you have as a legal guardian for your children should

something happen to you.

Plus, it will come in handy for camps, etc. which don't really think about where

your kids go to school but just want paperwork to cover themselves.

I would not file an exemption with the state if you don't have to.

FYI, each state is different, and some DO require you to file an

exemption even if you homeschool (Colorado does, for instance). So if

you're going by assumption, I encourge you to look up the law for your

specific state.

Homeschooling is illegal in CA unless you are a certified teacher.

That law was repealed. It is still legal.

I thought there was something tricky about CA. It's strange that it would be

illegal there, of all places. Did they just pass that about the certification?
