(Dec. 16, 2008) – <http://www.mc.uky.edu/cvrc/index.html>University of Kentucky Cardiovascular Research Center director Alan Daugherty discusses the development of a potential vaccine for high blood pressure in the current issue of <http://www.nature.com/nbt/journal/v26/n12/full/nbt1208-1327.html>Nature Biotechnology, a leading publication in the realm of scientific research. The article focuses on the debate over the safety and efficacy of developing therapeutic vaccines against high blood pressure, one of the key risk factors for heart attack and stroke. A primary concern among researchers is whether it is wise to create an immune response to some of the body’s natural processes. In the article, Daugherty helps to explain the complexity of the issue, from the benefits of a long-term solution to questions about whether a vaccine is the best solution, and whether the target for the vaccine, an enzyme found in the bloodstream, is the real culprit of hypertension, as the enzyme is also found in other parts of the body, including bone marrow cells. Daugherty is widely respected in his field and most recently received the Distinguished Achievement Award from the American Heart Association scientific council on Arteriosclerosis, Thrombosis and Vascular Biology in October. A UK College of Medicine professor of medicine and physiology, Daugherty is the Gill Foundation chair in preventive cardiology and associate chair of medicine for physician scientist training. -------------------------------------------------------- Sheri Nakken, R.N., MA, Hahnemannian Homeopath Vaccination Information & Choice Network, Nevada City CA & Wales UK Vaccines - http://www.wellwithin1.com/vaccine.htm Vaccine Dangers & Childhood Disease & Homeopathy Email classes start in December 2008
