On-Site Project Manager, ART adherence study

St. 's Medical College and Hospital, Bangalore, India

In collaboration with the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF)

Job Description

Manage day-to-day operations of an international collaborative research

project examining adherence to anti-retroviral therapy (ART) among HIV

infected patients at St. 's Medical College and Hospital, Bangalore

including:

Communication

Maintain ongoing communication with the San Francisco based team on a daily

basis (via email) and a weekly basis (via phone). Responsible for

communication with on-site and off-site laboratories to ensure timely,

quality controlled lab results. Communicate with study investigators study

statistician, local NGOs, and appropriate government bodies as necessary

under the supervision of the Principal Investigators (PIs).

Staff Supervision

Recruit, train, and supervise data entry, data management, and study

interviewer staff in coordination with on-site and San Francisco-based key

investigators. Supervise all aspects of data collection, including

recruitment, enrollment, and follow-up of study participants to ensure

adherence to study protocol. Determine appropriate staff development

training opportunities in consultation with the PIs and San Francisco based

team. Coordinate regular staff meetings and maintain meeting agendas.

Implement ongoing project evaluation and quality control measures in

coordination with key project investigators.

Office Management/Administration

Draft regular progress reports with consultation with on-site PIs for grant

management and operational reporting to the San Francisco based team.

Oversee a budget of approximately US $50,000 a year, including budget

development, maintenance of financial records, and periodic reporting.

Coordinate with the Business Manager to maintain subcontracts and accounting

per protocols established by UCSF and St 's Hospital. Manage an office

on the grounds of St. 's Hospital, including ordering of all

study-related supplies. Develop protocols that conform to St. 's

standards in coordination with on-site investigators for lab data analysis

at in-house and external laboratories.

Required skills and experiences:

1. Three or more years of project management experience, including

overseeing budgets, staff management, and financial reporting, preferably in

a health care or research setting

2. Excellent written, verbal, organizational, and interpersonal skills

3. Ability to work with diverse populations, castes, and social

backgrounds. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and the ability to

cope with challenging situations

4. Flexibility, patience, and ability to work independently

5.Proficiency in English and knowledge of two or more Indian languages

(e.g. Kannada, Tamil, Malayalam, Telegu, and/or Hindi)

6. PG diploma/certificate in relevant field such as public health,

social work, hospital administration, business/management, or related field

7.Experience with either Microsoft Office software (Word, EXCEL,

PowerPoint) or other word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software

Preferred skills and experiences:

1. Preference will be given to candidates with experience managing

international or NIH-funded studies

2. Experience with qualitative or quantitative data collection

3. Knowledge of HIV/AIDS-related medical and behavioral/psychosocial

issues in an Indian context

4. Experience with data management software such as MS Access

Exact salary will depend on experience, but is budgeted to be in the range

of Rs. 20000-25000 per month. Projected start date will be July 1, 2004.
