Guest guest
Monday I wrote a message really needing some direction after my DD (17 months) was diagnosed with a mild ear infection. She's not been sick much but the fact that she is unvax and this was her first issue I really wanted to throw up when the doctor told me and also wrote an RX for an antibiotic. She did say she thought it would clear up on its own. After reading about ear infections, it seems like it may possibly be bacterial as it was only one ear. That further freaked me out. I followed my gut as I was scared about me " treating " my daughter with alternative methods. I am happy to report (so far!) she is not and was not in any ear pain. I have an earcheck machine and on Monday it read that I needed to consult a doctor. Today, it's said fluid unlikely..the best response it could give. I went ahead and gave her tea tree oil and grapeseed extract oil. It looks like the infection cleared itself up with the aid of the oils!! Lordy! It worked!Unless the machine is messed up, but she is't showing any signs of discomfort -thank goodness Thank you to all that supported me with your thoughts, things that you did. You helped get me to the right nutrition store and restored my faith that I CAN help my baby in times of need!
Guest guest
Hi Stacey, What ear otoscope do you have? Thanks, le Sent from my Verizon Wireless BlackBerry
Guest guest
I'm glad she's better, Stacey. I still remember the pain from ear infections when I was 3-4 yrs. old. I'm curious about the one ear meaning possible bacterial infection. Was that in the info sent to you? I've never heard that. Most of the time when my sons had ear infections, it was in one ear. Very rarely did it get to both. Once I stopped giving them antibiotics, I always treated them successfully with natural meds. The docs diagnose ear infections when the ears are red. However, red doesn't necessarily mean an infection. Neither does fluid. It's just a guessing game, and for my kids, usually allergies. Anyway, wonderful news--you are a good and brave mom to have faith in yourself. It can be difficult to take that leap but you did it! Guest guest
The Earcheck only checks for fluid. You can't see if there's redness and then learn to judge for yourself the degree of the problem. Actually, I had a very cheap otoscope ($30) that worked great, and a semi-expensive one ($100) that was blurry. I didn't know what to look for, either. I'm not sure how you can really know unless you try it out. I had no training, just learned what a healthy ear looked like (any ped worth their co-pay should let you have a look-see) so I could compare. No matter what your training, looking doesn't verify anything other than irritation of some kind--nothing specific about whether it's bacterial or viral or allergies. And the peds base their diagnoses solely on the visual check. I'm glad yours suggested holding off for a bit! Guest guest
Who knows if it's true about bacterial in one ear and virus in both. I was just researching on the internet and reading various sources to find patterns and similar information. I only read it through one source. > > I'm glad she's better, Stacey.
