Guest guest
All four of mine have had it. The youngest age was about two. Definitely do not give fever reducers. Good for you to stay strong on that. I would treat her as you would with a cold, keeping the air moist, sit in the bath with the shower running, vaporizer, keep her drinking (no dairy) even at night, and have her sleep with you if you don't already so you can monitor her and get rest yourself. Keep her upright, but not to the point of not being able to sleep. You want to get the congestion out of her chest so clap on her back, going from the bottom to top. I would also give a homeopathic cough syrup that is a good expectorant, while soothing the cough so they can rest. It doesn't suppress it but makes it more effective. Here's a link to it: http://www.vitacost.com/Boericke-Tafel-Childrens-Cough-Bronchial-Syrup And don't forget she'll need probiotics to counter the antibiotics killing off the good bacteria. Just don't give it at the same time as the antibiotics. As for your doctor, I would read her the riot act. She FORGOT your child wasn't vaxed?? Well, it's a good thing she's not, since apparently vaxed kids don't get checked out as thoroughly! It's very scary when little ones are sick, but it sounds as if you are on top of it and I think she will be just fine. Winnie Baby has pneumonia-please help! Guest guest
had pneumonia when he was 6 months. We stayed home, I put smelly stuff on his chest, TTO in the vaporizer, and nurses him We also stayed home. Things went fine and he recovered just fine. no meds, no docs If you have a recliner, get comfy! I would have them sleep in my arms or propped up on my chest, while I was upright to semi-reclining. She's probably got the flu too. flu shots are virus shedding, as I recall. Or it was the flu and changed pneumonia. Guest guest
Our 3-month-old had a Pertussis-like cough, complete with Cyanosis (when they get blue when they cough from lack of air) and had a touch of Pneumonia. I did Antibiotics, he did get some palllitive care in the hospital because he had stopped eating and was dehydrated----and he is a healthy little guy today. Fluids, fluids, fluids. Even unto fruit juice bars, anything to get it in there consistently. The vax are irrelevant now and I would imagine the paint aggravated her lungs and helped precipitate this. Fevers kill germs, scary as they are: coolish baths can help with the discomfort. Keep her a bit elevated in bed for drainage, fluids and meds and she should come through with no more difficulty. Uhh, a tough one. So your daughter is completely unvaccinated? Did doctor tell you if pnemonia was bacterial or viral? I guess it was confirmed to be caused by a bacteria because antibiotics were prescribed? Sometimes doctors prescribe antibiotics just in case or just to see if they will work. Viral pnemonia doesn't require any treatments just time to heal. Bacterial is the dangerous one and from my knowledge needs antibiotics. When my son had a bad cold(i was convinced that he had pnemonia)I rubbed my son's chest before bed with a drop of eycoluptus(spelling?) essential oil. It's very good for bronchial congestion/asthma. Also, suctioning nose frequently should lessen nasal obstruction and coughs. Is she breastfeeding? Can you squeez some fresh fruit juice for her? I have a juicer and when someone in my family is sick, i squeez some carrot, apple, pear, parsley juice and drink immediately. It will give a burst of vitamins to help fight infections. I wish you all the best, stay strong! Katarina
Guest guest
THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH FOR YOUR REPLIES AND SUPPORT!!!! I knew I could count on the wise women (and men) in this group for guidance. I'm following everyone's advice... I did NOT do the fever reducer last night (she was so hot!) and she seems to have turned a corner... a wet cough and lots of mucous, but can sit up, clap her hands and smiled...a little...as for whether it's viral or bacterial, doc doesn't know...prescribed the abx anyway...I know when Shelby's all better I'll have to hear a whole lecture on Prevnar....More to come, baby is crying....THANKS AGAIN SO VERY MUCH. Hope everyone is having a wonderful holiday. peace, yvette **************One site keeps you connected to all your email: AOL Mail, Gmail, and Mail. Try it now. Guest guest
The prevanar vax only covers certain strains, does this mean that the doctor tests all suspected cases incase they are not covered by the strain in the vaccine. I think that if she had 'not forgetten' that you are a non-vaxer then your child would have been sent home and recoverd well without all the interference.  I totally understand the panic though, with my first son I was rushed to hospital in a amublance for an 'ear infection' (oh the shame), We just want our children to be well and we all panic.  I think of the sheer amount of colds that my son has had, and the temps and wonder how many times he has has pneumonia and recovered fine. Infact in my baby book it says most babys recover within a week without complication.  I hope your baby gets better soon. Guest guest
That's great news. Smiling and clapping, even a little, is a good sign. And if you do get that lecture, point out that not only is your unvaxed child fine, but without knowing if it was bacterial, the lecture is unwarranted. Anyway, you have a great holiday, too! Guest guest
Hyland's makes a Vitamin C dissolvable tabs in 25 mg. I would use those, a humidifier with Eucalyptus, Vick's baby rub for chest(it had lavender and other good oils in it),plenty of fluids, nurse if possible, warm baths, something called NoseFrieda for nose mucus is supposed to be good- don't have it yet. Also there is a digital forehead temperature scan that will help you take frequent readings in lieu of rectal and rectal when you can. I know...any sickness or fever freaks me out. I've done tylenol, motrin because I've been scared too. As I grow in my personal trust on what I can do for my daughter I will do less of that stuff, however the most important thing to me is not vax. Think of how many parents, vax completely AND give tylenol all of the time. I think we're doing good. Hang in there... > > Just as so many of you here, I have steadfastly refused to vaccinate > my soon to be one year old daughter.
