Guest guest
They only time I ever had to take my kids to the doctor was once they started doing sports in school. Then they had to go for an overall physical. The religious and medical exemptions are for the SCHOOL not for the doctor. You don't need any exemption at all to tell the doctor you aren't vaxxing. We use the religious waiver for school here since there is only that one and the medical one. You don't need to be of a specific religion to use the religious one either, so if you don't have the philosophical option, then just use the religious one. Guest guest
The exemptions are for school/daycare and have nothing to do with the doctors. It's not really their business how you handle it with the schools. For someone new to this, I would tell the docs you're not comfortable with vaxing and have decided not to do them. Period. For myself, not that it comes up any more, I am pretty blunt about it and tell them I think vaccines are dangerous, that one of my sons had a reaction, that I've done years of research and I know what I'm doing, thanks. When asked at emergency rooms about vax status, I sneer and say " we don't do those, " as if anyone who would consider it is nuts. Winnie What do you tell the Dr? Guest guest
I told our Dr. on our first visit after our daughter was born that we would not be vaccinating, for religious reasons. She asked what religion and we said we're not legally obligated to reveal that. Have yet to have a problem with it. I did have to sign a waiver though, so if she does happen to die of some childhood disease I won't sue them. I've also felt that, or at least what has worked for us, is to take her to her appointments as planned so she can see that she is healthy, developing properly, and is very well cared for and loved. This way they have little opportunity to make assumptions or develop a concern that she is being neglected in some way. When you walk into the office with an air of confidence and strength, people can usually see that you are not likely to be the kind of person to waiver from you decisions and of course education, education, education!!! That's how we handle the situation. Those waivers are not a good thing to sign - they ask you to acknowledge you are risking your baby's life by not vaccinating. From another list................... Never sign a Refusal To Vaccinate if confronted by such a form. The best way to avoid it, is avoid the allopaths I always suggest a naturopath and/or chiropractor. Here's the page that Dewey put up regarding that. I have put a page up at: http://www.vaclib.org/legal/donotsign.htm With two supporting forms at: http://www.vaclib.org/letters/RefuseVaccines1.doc http://www.vaclib.org/letters/RefuseVaccines1.pdf Here's the contents of the page below... Do Not Sign AAP or other self-incriminating Vaccine Refusal forms Basically, some doctors are giving patients who chose not to vaccine their children a form to sign created by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP). This form varies somewhat state to state but basically it is a total propaganda sheet about the alleged value of vaccines, the alleged " risk " of not vaccinating and even worse the parent who signs the form is falsely " admitting " that they are putting their children at risk. Lower on this page we have a letter from our director that explains more about why self-incriminating forms are to be avoided. When faced with a request to sign a form which removes liability from your doctor, you have several options: OPTIONS * Change doctors to a holistic physician such as a naturopath, homeopath or other medical provider who does not require you remove the liability from their shoulders in the event your child becomes sick. * Write your own form. * Use our form 'as is' or modify it to reflect your needs. Guest guest
Hmm...that poses a predicament...I read the form before I signed it, however I don't recall the exact wording. Can you point me in the direction of where I can find resources to now protect myself and my baby from that huge mistake? *Sigh* Afghans By Rodin www.afghansbyrodin.com
Guest guest
My family doctor knows I don't like vaccines and I don't like antibiotics and I only do absolutely necessary tests. They're all very busy though so escaping them is really easy and really, mainly, I call my homeopath for most everything I can't handle at home. With our other very provax regular ped, I never brought it up and they never questioned me either, which amazed me b/c they did see david at 13 months and said nothing about the fact they had only seen him at 1 month and nothing in b/t! Guest guest
's office wasn't! when he was 6 months or so and had a bad cold -not the pneumonia-I called for a RX decongestant and they came back on with 'we're looking at his file and it shows he's behind on his shots " .. and while he's sick w/ this cold and can't breathe, they wanted to get him UTD.. I would not let that at all. then the nurse got on w/ " if she didn't see peter in here for his shots in the next 2 weeks she'd call DHR " . I wrote a letter w/ dh and we fired them, told them it was unprofessional to feel the need to threaten clients and then I called the health dept' myself. The guy was real laid back " oh yeah, sometimes parents wait and do all the shots before the kids enter school " .. b/c I asked about delaying a while while his immune system got stronger. Anyway.. this office, our next ped, didn't even ?.. I admit, I was nervous the whole time wondering if I was going to have a fight on my hands. Guest guest
You must be in Texas... That is just nuts, and hysterical that you called DHS yourself. Guest guest
Hi Sabina, When I used to take my now 4 year old to the ped, he never really asked why we weren't vaxing. I started out by saying I was " delaying " until he was 1. I repeated this at every visit. He eventually stopped asking, the 1 year birthday came and went and he never asked again. It came up sometime between year 1 and 2 and he simply put it in 's file that he wasn't being vaxed. End of story. I use a religious exemption in the preschool and they never ask, as long as they have a copy of my notarized statement on file. At least here in GA they don't have the right to ask what religion you belong to - and it's really none of their business. It's not about belonging to an organized religion (which I don't) but about having a deep conviction of what you're doing is right. Guest guest
My doctor asked me to bring him some literature about vaccines, I think just so he could be assured that I was making an informed decision. I printed off pages and pages of research, and after reading them all, I think he is coming around to my side. He is very respectful of our decision and now that we are adopting internationally he has said that he will help us as much as he can to avoid having to vaccinate those children. , SD
Guest guest
That is AWESOME that you have a doc willing to help you avoid vaxing an adopted baby... that would be my number one concern for adopting, if I ever chose to. Also, the fact that he read ANY of the literature you gave him speaks highly of him... docs like that are way too few and far between. This is someone who is actually worthy of the " Doctor " title, and doesn't believe they are God and know it all. Refreshing, to say the least!
