I'm so sorry this happened to you. I'm fully aware of the pain that comes with hair loss. Please be certain to seek medical help for this because you never know if something else can be disrupted in your endocrine balance.Taking thyroid medication, especially if you don't need it will make your hair fall out. You might also want to see the following websites: www.florisene.com and www.keratin.com. This medical condition is refered to as telogen effluvium. It's common with hormone disruptions, surgery, fever, iron deficiency, stress, systemic illness and infection.

Take care of yourself and your hair should come back in time.I'll say a prayer for you and me both.

Sometimes the hair is not as thick after having gone through a telogen effluvium episode. I have had many episodes, following surgery, anemia, crash diet, and taking hormones I did not need (HGH injections, synthroid).

To help aid your hair in growing back the best it can, take a multivitamin, iron supplement and eat 20 grams of lean protein three times per day. I got this advice from an endocrinologist at the University of Virginia, and Washington University. They also advised my of the dangers of taking hormones that one does not need and it's impact on the disruption of the endocrine system that does often result in hair loss.

My dermatologist also urged me to take biotin and to have my serum ferritin be over 70.I take Lessman Hair, skin and nails vitamins and I'm eating better now.

I also had blood tests to rule out hormone problems.

Glad I can help, I know hair loss can be very painful. Don't worry, your hair will be long again. I had hair down to the bottom of my butt and had to cut it short, very devastating. It's mid back now, but I'm having another surgery.

Take Care.

Just to add my two cents in, blood tests are not always the best bet for hormones. And are not accurate for detecting hormone fluctuations and defeciencys. According to several books I have read, including Dr Lee's, (an expert in the field of hormones balance) and the thyroid specialist I am seeing, blood merely shows what is floating around in the blood, not what is being utalized or taken up. Saliva essays through a reputable company, like I go through are the best bet. Saliva shows what has been going on, what is being used up, and discarded sometimes up to a week previous. Think about it, drug users can often get away with blood work, but saliva and hair testing will show the past "doings" for a while. And more clearly. No getting around that.

My blood work showed I was fine on my previous thyroid hormone, and fine with progesterone. Later I then read Dr lee's book, how not to go by blood with hormones, so I decided to go with saliva. As I wont take anything unless I need it. I thought it would also come up fine. But my my saliva showed the opposite - a huge defeciency in thyroid uptake, and wiped out low levels of progesterone. It wasn’t until I went on a small amount of progesterone, and correct thyroid meds, (Armour did not do a thing for me but does for others!) that I have been doing great, sweating again, not losing hair, losing weight, and thinking more clearly with great skin again.

So just my two cents worth about blood work versus saliva. I would not go my blood work for hormones levels. I did for a while, and look where that got me. (although blood is great for b12, and nutritional needs, like anemia, iron, calcium, ect) love- ---- Original Message -----

Thanks JD: I had all the blood test, the Feritin was fine and above 70, B12 was high, from my shots I am sure, he told me that was fine. Heres the thing, it is allot thicker, and I have new growth all over my head, but how long does it take for it to all catch up? Seems forever!anyhow it is better and I am thankful for that. Hi :

I can't say that I know much about saliva vs. blood serum tests. I know there are other ways to measure estrogen, for example, a vaginal swipe.Interesting though.

As far as Dr. Lee goes, I'm dubious of authors of pop culture medicine books who do not put their evidence through the scrutiny that med journals require (not that I buy everything I read in them either--some studies have bias of course).I think docs writing books is a good thing and all but I want real "beef" to back up what they claim or to me it's just a money making vehicle.

Also, I read Swartz book on hormones and she thinks "Lee" is outdated in his thinking on progesterone. Go figure. Of course she's not backing up her critique on Lee.

I think as long as you're doing well on progesterone, that's great. My friend uses natural progesterone for PMS and swears by it. Endocrine issues are so variable, I guess there's no one size fits all approach to these issues.JOSEPH PALANCA <juliejp61@...> wrote:

I agree. Did you have any other symptoms besides hair loss from the thyroid meds? I did. Tachacadia, shortness of breath, exterme jitters, sleeplessness, and an "eyeball popping" sensation. It also felt as though my bones where growing through my skin. This is what a half grain of synthroid did.I was on it for five days.I went hyperthyroid.

That was very wise of you to demand your labs as you could have ended up seriously ill or worse. Thank God you're ok.

In your case it was medical error (stupid one at that) but the doctor I went to see did not run blood tests but gave me synthroid based on a test nearly a year old (2.3 TSH).Perfectly normal thyroid!

I had very dense hair too, fine hair but gobs of it. Now I can "feel" the hardness of my skull.I'm so scared.I too would not wish this on my worst enemy! you got that right! yikes!

JD:THanks, and yes my thryoid is fine now. I trust the blood tests in my case, as the mistake was made by my Dr's PA(physicians assistant) who retired about a month after diagnosing me severely Hypothryoid. It was a crock of s##t! I never had hypothyroidism EVER! I wish I would not have believed her, but I was still somewhat sick from implants (getting allot better by then) but tired and sluggish at times (it was just normal tiredness nothing more) but she had me going and convinced I was very hypo, it seemed to make sense to me at the time, and since I knew Patty was on armour and a few others, maybe can't recall but I thought it sounded like it was true. SHE READ MY LABS WRONG. I was actually slightly hyperactive, just barely and not enough to worry about, however, I should never have been put on armour thyroid never ever!

She read the labs wrong and thought that I was hypo, and so for the next 8 months I had nervousness, could not sleep, ate all the time(never gained a pound but was always hungry) rapid heartbeat, elevated blood pressure ( it usually was low like 90 over 55 and while on armour it was like 120 over 75) normal yeah, but high for ME. I was losing tons of hair and at first I was not that convcerned because I had so much hair I asumed it would never be missed. I think that after 8 months though I began to notice when putting my hair up or in a pony tail it was not as fat of a pony tail, and esp when blowing it dry it was taking 20 minutes rather 45 minutes to dry. I noticed that my black throw rug in my bathroom was constently covered with my long blonde hair and so were my clothes, the chair I sat in at work, it was really freaking everywhere, it freaked me out bad enough that I went and demanded a copy of my labs and brought them

to work where I new I would see one of our best endo Dr's who was a really nice guy. He came in onle day and I asked him to check them out and his first words were that I probably did not need the armour at all, he also wanted me to check them immediately and when I did they were all wacky, I was totally hyper. My Dr told me to stop the armour and also told me the PA that had been treating me had retired and that she might have been a little confused about the labs, BOY HER CONFUSION COST ME MY HAIR!SO after that I just waited as long as I could to color it or anything, If you ever look at the photos of me with my family in the photo section you can see my hair was long and blonde with about 7 inchest of roots because I was afraid to color it. Finally and I went a bit darker so i would not have color it too much, started using the nioxin products(RIP OFF) and then went ahead and finally chopped it off when it had really begun

to thicken up.Now I am half way there (thickness and legnth wise) what a nightmare, I would not wish that on my worse enemy!hugs--C In , Jane Doe wrote:> :> I agree. I see what you are saying. I am real careful with info that I read and how I apply it to my life. But in my situation, Progesterone has helped me a great deal, and a lot of my family and suprizingly a lot of friends . My neighbor was on the pill for years to alleviate her heavy menses, (a pad and a tampon per two hours) and also had fibrositic breast tumors so large they had to remove three of them. After talking to her, She read Dr lee book, (who makes no money off progesterone cream, or so he has stated) had saliva done, and was estrogen dominant. Highly so. She has been on progest for about 5 months now, and her periods are so normal now, she was able so got off the pill, and her fibroid tumor has shrunk so much so, surgery is off. Her gyne is shocked, and cant believe she no longer needs surgery (hers are very large). I mean it shrunk big time, nothing that has ever happened in her situation over the last two decades. She feels great, has normal cycles, and swears by it. Much safer than the pill that’s for sure.

In my opinion, most docs know nothing about women's hormones, and are outdated...and how to treat them, unless sythetically, and really quite dangerous. There's no wonder cancers are so high in women, esp breast. Anyway, to each their own. It realy worked wonders for me. Patty has done great on it, too. I agree not one thing works for all, if it did, the world would be a different place, just thought Id share -julie

Yeah, stay away from those hormones like BCP. IF I NEED hormones, I'll try the bioidenticals. That Somatropin(HGH) I was on made me ill, that too is synthetic.

I might give natural progesterone a try in the future to see if it would help my pms.JOSEPH PALANCA <juliejp61@...> wrote:
