Guest guest
I have the book " Homeopathy for Pregnancy, Birth, and Your Baby's First Year " by Miranda Castro. DEFINITELY get this one, if you're interested in trying to use more homeopathy for you and your new lo. It's a great reference tool, and she even has a chapter on how to simply repertorize symptoms, etc with examples and case studies to help you get a better idea of how that works. There are, of course, chapters on labor, etc, too, with the common complaints and remedies for each. A good friend who actually introduced me to homeopathy will be attending my upcoming birth in March b/c it's not really as easy to see what's happening and correctly dose, etc, yourself, so if you have anyone who could attend the birth and help you out with this, that'd also be good. My friend printed out Pages 34-37 of the Winter 2006 edition excerpt from a book by Diane Gregg at www.midwiferytoday.com, which has some helpful info about remedies, etc, AND there are tons of homeopathic birthing kits available with the usual remedies included. The big ones to have on hand are, of course, Arnica (30C & 200C) - for pain, bruising, bleeding, tissue trauma, headache and anxiety as well as shock both mental and physical; Arsenicum (recommended is 200C) for exhaustion, although if you're getting beyond done and exhausted, you may actually need more of a 6X b/c a 200C would just be too much; Belladonna (30C & 200C) for sudden and severe onset of pains, bleeding, anger, and wanting to push too early; Calendula (200c) to heal infected skin/cuts and rashes, especially those with pus; and Rescue Remedy (it's a liquid in tincture or spray that has, I believe, 5 of the bach remedies in it) - use 4 drops in 2 to 4 oz spring or filtered water and sip as needed when feeling out of control in labor, as well as for calming any panic, fear, or physical shock and distress (this can also be given to the baby for similar problems by diluting 1 drop in 1 oz filtered water and giving drops in the mouth or rubbing drops on his/her lips). There are several others on the list, but these are a few that really stand out to me. Try to familiarize yourself even better over the next month or so with repertorizing, etc, especially if you're going to have to do this for yourself, so you have more confidence and assurance about using it as well as more knowledge of how better to use it this time! I know, easier said than done. I'm so grateful to have my friend coming b/c I still know so little and definitely need her experience and confidence to help me through and l & d, even though DH really is great support. Good luck, and if you can't find a better list, I'd be happy to email you the one I have in it's entirety. > > Thanks so much for the advice. I looked up Dana's website > (homeopathic.com?). Guest guest
Great suggestion. That book was my bible and I still refer to it frequently. It IS a good idea to have someone else there. I used Arnica up until 8 cm. and then my mind went and I caved on the painkillers. It slowed my labor so much that I one time I was babbling about wanting epidurals, which they refused to give me (!). I wish I'd had someone there whose mind was clear to help choose remedies. And of course there are other things to do for labor: hot showers, moving around... Guest guest
You needed HypnoBirthing, Winnie! I used it with both pregnancies. No pain killers, no pain, no hyteria, panic, etc. Just gentle births. I can't recommend HypnoBirthing highly enough. http://www.hypnobirthing.com On Mon, Dec 22, 2008 at 9:19 PM, <wharrison@...> wrote: > Great suggestion. Guest guest
That would have been great. I'd never even heard of it! Guest guest
-I second the hypnobirthing!!! I am amazed when I hear horror stories of deliveries because ours was so great - dare I say I almost enjoyed it!? Or at least parts of it. And the whole thing was over in 11 hours flat. The hypnobirthing really helps you relax and bring the baby down quickly, I think. There were definitely intense moments and I can understand why some women get drugs and epidurals but I never felt like I wanted them. Hypnobirthing, acupressure, and a doula - good stuff. I will use homeopathy next time as well. Melinda C.
