Hi Pam!

I'm glad your hair recovered. I have hair loss, but nobody could tell besides me. I had very dense hair-- a lot of it. I've had hair loss after extreme diet which led to anemia (heavy periods), and having back to back surgeries with genral anesthesia. I don't think all my hair will come back, but the docs say more will come back.

As for you friend, it sounds as though her has a condition doctors refer to andrgentic alopecia.Unfortunately, with a balding mother, he chances of getting this condition is great. This kind of hair loss in women is passed from one woman to the next in the family. There have a problem with hormones being tipped in the male direction t(reatment is hormone therapy but that is not always sucessful).

There are no bald women in my family. My Mom had a full head of hair when she died at age 36 in 91. But my grandmother, greatgrandmother and aunts have full heads of hair I'd be beyond devastated if this condition. In fact I feared that I had, and the endos at GWU AND Univ. of Virgina said no.I asked the endocrinologist if I can get bald from my grandfather and he said no, it doesn't work that way. Beware that companies like Rogaine will want women to think sickeness/ shock hair loss is the same as hereditary, it's bull****, they're just trying to make money peddling their crap product.

According to Dr. Lynn Drake at Harvard, there are many reasons for hair loss in women, and in MOST cases, it's not genetic.

My hair came back pretty quickly after I went back to a normal diet. But, with the implants came more hair loss. I've always had thin hair, but it got to the point where I was losing a handful a day. I thought it was normal until after getting them out. Now I lose in a week what I was losing in a day! It's never been noticeable to anyone but me though, thank God. I can't imagine what you all go through. My best friend has hair loss in her family. She has beautiful hair down to her butt. She's so afraid of losing it. So far she doesn't have any signs, but her mom is nearly bald. It's so sad. Is there something she can do even if it's hereditary? Thanks!Pam> I tried a low fat diet once and after about a month my hair was > coming out in huge clumps.
