Guest guest Posted April 22, 2004 Report Share Posted April 22, 2004 The Knowledge, Attitudes, Beliefs and Practices (KABP) surveys “The KABP surveys were designed to provide information on knowledge, attitudes and behaviour with regard to HIV/ AIDS. More specifically the KABP surveys were designed to collect data on knowledge about HIV infection and AIDS, and to investigate attitudes to and beliefs about HIV infection, attitudes to AIDS and toward people with AIDS. Further, it attempted to assess the awareness of the relationship between certain behaviours and HIV infection, to identify the main sources of AIDS information and education, to collect basic data on the relative prevalence of selected behaviours associated with the risks of HIV infection and to determine use of condoms as a means of risk reduction. Finally, it attempted to analyse the relationship between these cognitive, attitudinal and behavioural factors highlighted and socio-demographic and other characteristics”. Often a KABP survey is consist of the following sections; Awareness of AIDS, Knowledge of AIDS, Source of information about AIDS, Attitudes to AIDS, Beliefs about AIDS, Behavioural responses to AIDS, knowledge and use of condoms. Website; www.mobilityandhiv.org _____________________________________ Re: Standard format for KAP Survey Dear FORUM, Although I could not understand what you meant by " KAP format " , you can refer to 'Guideline for Repeated Behavioral Surveys in Populations at Risk of HIV' (published by Family Health International/United States Agency for International Development. It gives us the research instruments for Behavioral Surveillance Survey (BSS)- which is a improved/sophisticated version of " so called KAP " . You can use the research instrument given for 'adult target groups'. You might find a copy of this guideline with TANSACS. Otherwise, I can send you a copy if it is not available there. Thanks Dr. A.
