Shortly after getting implants I had lymph nodes in my groin swell

and become painful. I had surgery for endometriosis 8 months before

getting the implants, so when the doctor examined me and found the

enlarged lymph nodes he was concerned. The pain got worse and worse

and about 3 months later I begged him for a full hysterectomy. I was

only 34 and he didn't want to do it.

First we tried depo provera, depo lupron and I don't remember what

else, to try to get the endometriosis to die. Nothing helped. It

kept getting worse. So, he finally agreed to the surgery in December

of 99 which was only 4 months after getting implants. He couldn't

find any real reason for the lymph nodes to be so big and so painful

though. But he did find tons of adhesions that had formed after the

last surgery. My bowels were bound up and everything was stuck

together in there. Once he freed everything up, I felt great...for a

little while.

Then again within a short period the same thing happened. My gyn now

feels that it was all a reaction to the implants. He said that since

my immune system was fighting the foreign body which it couldn't get

rid of, the lymph nodes were doing what they were supposed to which

is fight stuff. Sorry for being so non-technical! I don't know what

you call it. Anyway, because of all that " fighting " going on, the

adhesions went out of control as well. I ended up having to have two

more surgeries for adhesions. 1 7 months after the hysterectomy and

another one 5 months after that one. I can still feel the enlarged

lymph nodes and I still have pain, but not enough to do anything

about though! I'm not getting cut on again for a long long time!

Pam:

I am so sorry you had to endure the hysterectomy at such a young age.

Even if you were not planning more kids, i mean we all want to keep

our parts right? I know I feel very strongly about keeping as many of

my insides as I can, gall bladder, uterus, etc, ya know, all the

things the Dr's claim we don't need. I wish I could get back my

tonsils too hee hee. Oh well. I am curious as to what your taking, as

far as hormone replacement, if you don't mind my asking and how that

whole issue is going for you.

I have to say I am pretty positive that when lymph nodes swell up

they often times do not ever go back completely. I had one swell up

in my neck in my teens and it is still there, very small and non

tender. My Dr back then said they usually after a bad infection stay

a bit enlarged and that unless they are painful they are not a big

deal. The ones I have in my groin seem to be there to stay at this

point, but they do not hurt at all, just feel a tiny bit strange ya

know.

Anyhow everyone is different so I assume some could go back to

normal, mine just never did.

This is so weird we are talking about lymph nodes. I know viruses can make them swell too. Any type of infection, Personally, because the ones in my groin and neck are currently huge, but only because I caught a common viral infection called fifth's disease (sounds scary but isnt) and it makes you look like you are slapped all over! Your skin gets blotchy, and adults have swelling and joint pain, boy do I ever I cant even wear my rings! And I am so achy. No biggie, but a pain in the a**! Anyway, my lymph nodes are huge, but I am sure will go down after reading up on them. it happens in times of low immunity, like infections, or viruses for example.

Actually it is pretty uncommon that they will ever completely go away

once they swell up. They will go down a bit, but I have had one on my

neck since I had strep throat when i was 15 and it is still there.

The ones in my groin too, they don't go away, but they are not really

swollen, they are just little balls, they don't bother me at all.

anyhow when did you catch this illness, is this new?

I hope you feel better soon. I remember someone telling me that I had

that when I was sick from implants, because I did have allot of the

symptoms, but of course it was not that, it was the implants.

hope you feel better soon girl.

, Thanks for the info about lymph nodes. Interesting. I know that when Im sick ,they do go down afterwards. As they are sore, and large when I am ill, then go down, and i can barely feel them afterwards. Most Docs feel your lymph nodes to assess how ill you are. Infection or even Cancer will make them larger in size. Its normal after infection is gone, as the lymph nodes drain the infection as your immunity increases. They are almost like little bags to catch infections. But perhaps some never do go down, depending on what caused them to swell. Like yours, and my sis - she still has large ones behind her ears and neck- since she had mono when she 17. Someting. The Body is amazing, isnt it?

5'ths is very common esp amoungst younger ones. Its all over the place in my town -its kinda funny all the kids in Crete look abused! Ha HA

They call it 5th, as there are 5 common childhood viral rashes. Chicken Pox, measles, mumps, rubella, and 5ths. It looks like roseolla , slapped skin. More so in kids, but in adults the viral infection causes more joint pain, and swelling. I feel fine, just swollen girl. I cant wear my rings still. My doc said, you are gonna be swollen like that for about 4 to 6 weeks. Arg! The slapped look has went away though, thank God. I am standing up in a wedding ,in a few weeks. Thanks for asking.
