Guest guest Posted February 6, 2004 Report Share Posted February 6, 2004 Programme to prevent spread of AIDS on the cards TIMES NEWS NETWORK[ SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 07, 2004 12:34:04 AM ] HYDERABAD: Anti Retroviral Therapy programme for those affected with HIV/AIDS will be implemented in three phases in the state. The first phase of the programme will commence on April 1 at the teaching hospital attached to Osmania Medical Hospital, medical and health minister Kodela Sivaprasad Rao told reporters on Friday. He said that the government had already requested NACO to sanction three more centres,in the first phase, at the Andhra Medical College (Visakhapatnam), Guntur Medical College and S V Medical College (Tirupati). All the remaining medical college hospitals will be covered in phase II from October 2 onwards and third phase would commence from December 1 in all the district head quarter hospitals. The minister said that priority would be given to Sero positive mothers who had participated in the prevention of parent-tochild transmission (PPTCT) programme and Sero positive children below the age of 15 years besides the people with AIDS who seek treatment in the government hospitals. The Anti Retroviral therapy programme would prevent further spread of HIV/AIDs and it would reduce the impact of the spread on the general population and for those affected, he said.
