Unfortunately, near your area we have never found a doctor we liked. Dr.

Feng of Cleveland, Dr. Huang of Denver, are the two closest. Of the two,

Dr. Huang charges less, they both do excellent work.

I live in Bellevue WA. I had my implants removed last November. I went from doctor to doctor none of which were supportive. They all said we will remove them but we don't think they are causing any problems. At that point I was so sick, fever for 9 months and still have it now going on 15 months, joint pain, chest pain, tired all the time the list goes on and on. When the doctor removed the implants they found a cheesy white substance.

I can give you the name of the doctor I used if you want. But unfortunately I think your going to find the same thing. I had to get clear in my mind that I wanted to do it no matter what they said and to stop second guessing myself, which took several months.

Please let my know if I can help.

I'm new...looking for good explant PS - western Wa State

Hi Everyone My name's Sharon and I'm in the process of hunting for a quality, sympathetic PS to remove the Mentor textured saline implants that were sub-muscularly implanted in Nov 2001. I thought I'd done my homework when I researched their"safety"before being implanted. So much for believing the general plastic surgery community…I wish I'd known about this group before thesurgery. Anyway, I recently made an emergency trip to my family Dr with what I could swear was a heart attack (from the degree of chest pain). My ECG was fine. It dawned on me that since the pain was chest related, maybe it might have something to do with the implants. I'm notmuch of a computer user, but I started searching the web for info on implants. I was shocked to learn that so many of the"oddailments" I'd been gradually accumulating over the last 18 months were associated with silicone poisoning.(Raynaud's phenomenon, poor sleep, sweats, clouded thinking, extreme fatigue, rapidly deteriorating eyesight, chest pain, excruciating headaches, an MRI showing white matter lesions, short term memory loss, muscle weakness, arthritic joint pains) I live near Tacoma, WA. I have been to my original PS and he grudgingly agreed to remove them for "my peace of mind" onlyhe made it clear that he doesn't believe the symptoms are in any way related. I was adamant about having him do a complete capsulectomy, but he told me that he would refuse to remove the entire capsule if it was attached firmly to the chest wall, necessitating scraping. I realize I need to find someone else to do the explant. I read the list of PS on the website, but only found the one Dr in Bellingham (4-5hrs away). Does anyone know of a sympathetic, quality PS anywhere near Seattle or Tacoma, WA? I'm a single mom, and student on very limited income and it's going to take pretty much everything I have to get this done. While I won't scrimp on the cost of the procedure, I really want to try to find a Dr reasonably close to home if I can. Thanks for any suggestions anyone hasSharon

Word of caution regarding Dr Melvin, he did not remove the entire

capsule on a few women I know who went to him, now they were not

sick, so he felt it was fine to leave it behind, however, if you are

sick and use this Dr I would get it in writting that he will remove

all of the capsule not just part of it, and that scoring is not

acceptable. He does not actually believe in implant illness and esp

not from salines, so just use caution. Some women don't care about if

the Dr believes in the illness or not, they just want the implants

out, which is ok, as long as they do it write. The problem is unless

you get it in writting, who knows what they will do in there.

so please please make sure to get this all settled first before you

use this PS.

Personally I did not like the fact that he felt implants were safe

and that he felt capsules were safe to leave behind. Results come out

better cosmetically when the capsule is left behind, so this could be

part of why his patients, at least the one I have seen, look good.

Thanks for letting us know this. The better informed we are, the wiser choices we can make as patients and consumers.

I would not go to anyone who does not make a habit of removing the entire

scar capsule. There is usually much residual silicone in the

capsule. Besides, the capsule and implant should be removed in one piece

so that silicone is not released into the body.

--- Hi, you came to the right place... I am in AZ, and went to Ohio

to Dr. Feng, my old PS said the same thing as yours did,,, tell him

to read up on us girls, I get so irritated.. It has been four months

since my explant, and I am almost back to normal... Yes, it is the

implants, I felt an instant relief after the surgery... Dr. Feng is

so wonderful and SYMPATHETIC.. and she told me that I WAS having a

hyper immune sensitivity to the silicone shell of the implant... She

said that I should reverse w/in six months,(if it is the implant) and

she was right.... I had Mentor smooth saline for four yrs. Love and

blessings, Iggy

Depends on where you can travel to. There is a doctor in San Diego, one in

Denver, one in Atlanta, one in Cleveland, one in Dallas.

Also depends on whether ins. is paying for your explant. If not, Denver is

thousands less for the same great results.

To and everyone else who replied,

Thank you all for the advice on choosing a PS. I had an appt set with Dr Melvin in Portland ,OR for July 8. I switched to the Dr's in Bellingham, WA when I discovered that he doesn't always remove the entire capsule. My implants were textured and sub-muscular, so there may be some scraping necessary. According to Dr Helen office, their practice does total capsulectomy and will remove other foreign material around the implant if they find any. I have a consultation with them on July 7. They have a Dr M Whitney, who apparently was previously an instructor at Harvard and written up in the Boston Magazine as one of the 20 top Dr's in Boston in 2003. I'll let you know if he ends up being sympathetic and thorough. Sounds good from talking with the scheduler.

Thanks again

Word of caution regarding Dr Melvin, he did not remove the entire capsule on a few women I know who went to him, now they were not sick, so he felt it was fine to leave it behind, however, if you are sick and use this Dr I would get it in writting that he will remove all of the capsule not just part of it, and that scoring is not acceptable. He does not actually believe in implant illness and esp not from salines, so just use caution. Some women don't care about if the Dr believes in the illness or not, they just want the implants out, which is ok, as long as they do it write. The problem is unless you get it in writting, who knows what they will do in there.so please please make sure to get this all settled first before you use this PS.Personally I did not like the fact that he felt implants were safe and that he felt capsules

were safe to leave behind. Results come out better cosmetically when the capsule is left behind, so this could be part of why his patients, at least the one I have seen, look good.hugsIn , "jadebreaks" <jadebreaks@u...> wrote:> > > There is a doctor Melvin in Washington who did explant surgery on a > woman named .
