Police harassment of sex workers in Surat City

Dear Forum members,

“Sahyog Mahila Mandal” is a registered organization of sex

workers staying in Red Light Area of Surat city. Chakla Bazar is the only

Red Light Area in Gujarat state , existing since last four hundred years.

Where total 600 sex workers are doing their business. From last few months

we are being harassed by the by the local police as well as the police is

forcing us to to vacant our homes. The owners of the houses locked the

houses and many of us have now became homeless. We are economically broken

and facing hunger problem also. There are total 60 children starving for

food.

We would like you and your organization to help us in coming out from

these problems. We also expect possibly urgent help at your end. You can

help us by sending messages to the President of India, NACO and Government

of Gujarat.
