Oops, I meant to say 'RO water actually leaches MINERALS out of our bodies

as it tries to get back into balance.'

Also, I believe that the type of fluoride they put in the water is bad for

you, including your bones. Maybe it's good for the surface of your teeth so

having it in your toothpaste might be OK, but we even use non-fluoridated

toothpaste at our house. My 9 year old son has never had a cavity or a

fluoride treatment even though my sister is his dentist and is always trying

to convince me to do it.

Subject: Ionized water VS reverse osmosis water

We just had our RO system removed after using it for several years and just

got an ionizer. RO water is acidic and actually leaches water out our bodies

as it tries to get back into balance of having some minerals in it. My body

has turned much more acidic since we have had our RO system. We just had our

ionizer installed yesterday and I already have a headache from its

detoxifying affects. There are 4 setting and I insisted on putting the

ionizer on the highest setting, but now I may turn it down a bit so my body

detoxifies slower so I don't feel icky. The PH of our ionized water is 9.2

and the ph of or RO water was about 6.1 and the tap water was about 6.9.

That other reading that measures antioxidant levels (ORP value?) put our new

water at a -377 (negative is good - negative ions come from raw veges). Our

tap water was +350! The ionizer attaches ions to all of the molecules in the

water and then filters away the ones with positive ions attached to it

(fluoride, chlorine and the other stuff you don't want). That's why if you

use an ionizer on purified water such as RO water or distilled water that

has NOTHING in it, an ionizer will do nothing to that water. When drinking

ionized water you are constantly flooding your body with minerals and

antioxidants (the negative ions?) and drinking very alkaline water. I can't

tell you if or how it's helped me so far since we have had it for less than

a day, but I can't understand how this water could possibly be bad for you.

It is expensive though. We paid $1600 for an under counter model.

Subject: Re: Thyroid Issues

I have looked at a an R/O system that is round $500 - $600. It is

suppose to remove 95% of the flouride. It is a bit pricey, but I

will do it if I think it is necessary. That is what I am trying to

figure out. The one thing that concerns me with R/O water is the

fact that is is depleted of minerals. I understand that it has an

acidifying effect on the body which is not good. I suppose that we

can do some things to compensate for that, but most of us are already

too acidic anyway. ...definitely a concern.

Another drinking water option that interests me is one that

supposedly alkalinizes the water. I forget, but maybe they are

called " ionized " water systems. I know that they are a bit

controversial. Some do not believe that they provide the benefits as

advertized. Most are >$1000.

I appreciate any thoughts on the R/O option and the ionized water

option.

Thanks.

You are making a lot of assumptions here, and it sounds like you came

across a REALLY good ionizer salesperson. It is a FAR stretch to

assume that you have a headache because you are de-toxing from the

water. That is where all the mis-information on the internet comes

from. Connections that don't exist. And they are repeated again and

again.

This is a quote from some literature, admittedly put out by a

distiller company: " Testing by Japanese researchers showed no harmful

effects on test animals for short term exposure to (ionized) alkaline

water. However, extended testing on these same animals resulted in

near universal mortality. Three other Japanese studies have been

published in peer journals and independently verified showing that

alkaline water caused pathological changes in heart cell muscles and

increased the risk of heart attack in laboratory animals. " It is

worth looking into.

Regarding the pH levels, if one does buy into the whole acid/alkaline

balance (which has its own opponents), it is not about what you eat

or drink and whether it is acidic or alkaline. It is how it affects

the body once digested. Since your digestive system is very acidic,

continually drinking alkaline water will affect the ability of your

digestive system to work properly. It will have to provide more and

more acid to compensate for the dilution of gastric juices.

Also, it is a myth that water without minerals will leach them from

your body. This is one of those " connections " that was improperly

made at some point and proliferated on the internet. I have a 23 page

report I can send you on all the different forms of water and the

pros and cons of them. It comes with sources that you can check out

further. It explains things in a way that makes sense, and the

science in it is for the layperson's understanding.

  • 2 weeks later...

They use sodium floride which is shown to leech calcium from the bones

in the body. In addition to that theres some demographic studies

which show that when floridation of municipal water supplies begins

other health problems start cropping up. Too much of this type of

floride also dulls the brain, makes people more prone to be easily

persuaded.

It's CALCIUM floride which builds bones. Dentists get this wrong too,

but they get lots wrong (root canals, amalgam fillings) so I expected

as much :P

Hey ,

I would try Prill Beads first. you can buy them on ebay. Much

cheaper and do something similar to the expensive home ionizers.

I just ordered mine from advice given from an online friend.
