I think the decision to remove your gallbladder is a personal one.  You can

gather info from people who aren't dr's and who made the decision for them self,

but that is all it is, their opinion. So don't let anyone scare you into doing

or not doing something.

That being said, if your friend's daughter has only had one attack I would

advise her to hold off.  Many people have only one attack and never have

another, flush or no flush, change in diet or no change.

For me I decided to have my gb removed (almost a yr ago).  It was the right

decision for me and I have never regretted it.  It was an out patient surgery

and I was back to work in 4 days.  It was painful for the first few days, but

so were the multiple attacks I was having every month or two, which I truly

believe had nothing to do with what I ate because I remember having one right

before meal time on several occasions and I had not eaten a 'horrible' meal

prior.  I happened to only get them after the birth of my son, which is common

and I did not want to take the chance that during my second pregnancy I would be

suffering from attacks.

That is just my story, it may or may not be the right option for you or anyone

else on the board, but it is for me.

There are many people who say " it's an organ and is very useful " and they might

be right, but there are also others who believe that evolution has made the gb

basically unnecessary.  The thought behind it being that when we were hunter and

gatherers we might have had a heavy meal every few days. The gb was needed to

store the bile for when that meal needed to be digested.  Now that we eat

often this is no longer the case.  Just 'food' for thought.

When all is said and done, do what is best for you.
