Guest guest
Dear vibha, The women from VAMP who are in Surat at present have been giving me a report everyday. But I am disappointed at the pace of the efforts. Why are we unable to pressurise them to act on the court order? The lawyers collective with other NGO's met the chair of the NCW MS. Poornima Advani and she has promised to meet the women and investigate the problem on the 19th. I request all the NGO's who can get to Surat at such short notice to try and be there to advocate for the women. I understand that the goverment will always protect the haves and the powerful but we must fight for the rights of women and their children who at this point are powerless and whose fate unfortunately is totally in the hands of ruthless officials who do not care. The `purdah' of moral respectability that protects the rich and powerful is the price the women of surat are paying. I request you all whatever the political ideology , to please come forward and help the women. Sorry for this emotional letter. in solidarity, Meena Saraswathi Seshu.
