Dear FORUM,

My name is Happymon . I am a Doctoral student at the Centre for Diplomatic

Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. I am doing a research paper for

the Regional Centre for Strategic Studies (www.rcss.org) Colombo, Sri Lanka on

“HIV/AIDS as National Security Threat to India”. While my general field of

specialization is Security Studies, my area of specialization for a long time

has been alternative security studies, especially Human Security. I firmly

believe that there is a strong inter-linkage between Human Security and National

Security though it is not an accepted fact in the area of International

Relations and Security Studies. This is where, I believe, a study of this kind

assumes great importance because it aims to connect HIV/AIDS to National

Security.

Along with this study I am also involved with a project at JNU on Human Security

in India, which aims to make a Human Security Index for the Indian States based

on certain variables selected differently from the Human Development Index.

In order to collect Data for my HIV/AIDS as National Security Threat to India”

paper, I am thinking of conducting field trips to Mumbai, Pune, Chennai,

Hyderabad, Bangalore, Chennai, Imphal and Kohima. I would be very happy and

grateful if any NGOs working in these cities on HIV/AIDS could share their views

and expertise with me for my study. I am specifically interested in getting

information on the impact of HIV/AIDS on economy, Police force, social

conflicts, productivity, demography, AIDS orphans and so on. Kindly let me know

if I could meet any of you in any of the above-mentioned cities any time in one

of the coming months.

Thank you.
