I'd had the disease for seventeen years. (FYI the course of HCV is often relatively symptom free until the advanced stages when it usually is too late) I had to fight with the HMO doctors to get sent to a specialist, but when they finally did I was put on Interferon A therapy. I was on 3 million units 3x a week for a couple of months and then it was raised to 5 million units because I was not responding. I did a lot of research at this time ( thank God for the internet!) and decided to take matters into my own hands. A doctor in London had good results with megadoses of vitamin C. I began taking ester-C in increasing doses until I reached 11 grams. I stayed on 11 grams a day for over a year with no ill effects. I began a low fat diet which included a raw salad at least once a day. I also took a complete high potency vitamin supplement. In addition I added milk thistle extract ( a liver protectant) and yogurt with live cultures daily(to strengthen my immune system). I am a believer in a wide spectrum total approach to health so my regimen included positive attitudes both intellectually and spiritually. I did not seem to be responding and my doctor was not very hopeful. I refused to accept this and held my hopes and faith. When the doctor ended my treatment he sent me to get a RNA count (the best way to determine HCV infection). When I went to get my results he was clearly surprised and delighted - my blood was totally clear of HCV. I go every year for a liver panel and it always comes back good! I firmly believe that the megadoses of C were a very important part of the cure. Rai
