Guest guest
I did not see it Ev, but I do know that taking calcium with magnesium is a good idea because they need each other for absorption. The general dosage is ½ as much magnesium as calcium, so if you are taking 600 mg of calcium you should be getting 300 mg of magnesium along with it. Guest guest
I took it several times for long periods and I never felt any difference. Re: Magnesium Rena - I was taking this magnesium (Twinlab) for 2 or 3 weeks before I really noticed any changes. Being a dietary/metabolic thing, sometimes you have to give it time to really get into the system and get to work! Ev I have taken magnesium in some occasions (I don't remember which type), but I didn't feel any difference in any way. So if magnesium is doing good for others, I really would like to know which one I should take. Thanks Rena

Guest guest
Didn't see it Some info I had on file... with Cal Mag. Your body needs adequate amounts of Magnesium in order to absorb calcium and it also needs adequate amounts of Calcium to utilize Magnesium. Vitamin D-3 is sometimes included because it helps both the absorption and utilization of Calcium. Any Calcium supplement that does not contain Magnesium is simply not of much value in terms of absorption and utilization in the body. Boron is added to help maintain Calcium levels in the body once it is absorbed. Studies have shown that less Calcium is excreted in the urine if adequate levels of Boron are present. Many Calcium supplements contain only inexpensive, inorganic forms of Calcium, such as oxides or carbonates. In general, most of these products are not worthwhile because most of the Calcium is not absorbed. Different individuals seem to be able to absorb different forms of Calcium and Magnesium. Calcium and Magnesium are absolutely necessary for healthy muscles. Inadequate levels can lead to muscle cramping, especially in the legs. <autumn3scorpio@...> wrote: Oh, I also take extra calcium - LOTS of that. Guest guest
Hi Anne, What's exactly Lugol's solution? Only iodine? I was told by more than one doctor and I also read it in books that is dangerous to take iodine for long periods. I took it for 3 months because the test showed that my thyroid was working at 58%, but I didn't feel any difference. Rena Magnesium Rena, I spoke with my sister re your problems and she said - Start with Diet - Then you need Lugol's solution for the endocrine glands and then you need to balance pH. Try using pH drops ( Alkalife). That is a crutch but it is difficult to get your body pH balanced by diet alone. If you weren't getting any success from magnesium you should see which type you were using...mag chloride or mag sulfate. Mag Chloride is the one that will help you the other just gets peed out. Guest guest
In reality I don't have any doctor. I keep changing because they first tell me they can help me, but after a while they don't know what else to do. What I said about the iodine I read it in several places and I heard it from some doctors. That's the reason I marvel that some people take it for a long time. Guest guest
Malic Acid helps, it comes from apples, I use it all the time, has really helped me when I eat the faatty foods I shouldn't eat. You can get it in capsules or drink a lot of apple juice-good apple juice. Jeanne In a message dated 6/4/2009 3:47:36 P.M. Guest guest
Yep malic acid for sure, mag helps but don't just take it orally. I've found the magnesium oil to be really good as well. Apply it to the gb area. globallight.net is the only place I've purchased from. Also caster oil, I just rub it on and leave it for a few hours. Make sure you wash it off after a few hours as I could actually feel the toxins which have been pulled through the skin irritating that area. The castor oil packs I find high maintenance for some reason, and too powerful for me. Sleeping all night with castor oil on my liver is probably one of the best things one could do for liver and gb health (besides gb flushing and coffee enemas), but I need to start off slow with this stuff. Take tumeric and ginger capsules, I'm juicing about 1 inch of ginger with my beet, carrot and bok choy. Really seems to help! Brad > > Will taking magnesium during an attack help? Guest guest
Hi Francine, Is your doctor recommending the magnesium? Magnesium is an electrolyte, so you just need to be careful to make sure all of your electrolytes stay balanced. Calcium, magnesium, potassium, etc.., all work together. If you get too much of one, it can cause a problem with the others. If your doctor didn't recommend it, you may want to discuss it with him/her, just to make sure it's the right amount for you. Your blood work will tell them what you need. Good luck with the orthotics. I hope the suggestions from others can help and you can work out a good solution with your orthotist. Please keep us posted. Guest guest
I just asked my doctors this question as my nutritionist suggested magnesium as a way to experiment to see if it was a deficiency in this that was heightening my leg cramps (or to pinpoint if cramps were caused by nerve damage). My doctors advised me that magnesium is not contraindicated (meaning it is ok) for people with CMT. So I am taking magnesium at the moment. My cramping is less than it was - in fact, I cannot remember the last swim I did with a leg cramp although I am not sure if this is due to the water temperature or supplement. If you take any supplement it is best to check the dosage with a trained dietician / nutritionist / your doctor. I know I cross check my entire approach with my medical / support team!
