You can use other forms of magnesium salts but no calcium. Magnesium malate or

citrate is fine. If you add calcium you will not have the bowel moistening

characteristic. -D

Dave, I am on a dairy-free diet. I had hoped that I was getting sufficient

calcium through other sources in my diet. But the results of a recent urine

test showed that I am a little high on magnesium and a little low on calcium.

So I started taking a calcium supplement.

Should I stop taking the calcium at some point prior to the flush? It seems

that having calcium is important to get a good contraction of the GB.

Thanks.

Dairy is a lousy source of calcium. While it contains high amounts it is bound

in a very unavailable way and therefore we are able to extract little. You

definitely want to stop 24 hours before the flush. Both calcium and magnesium

are necessary electrolytes for muscle contraction but in this case the concern

is " liquidity " of the bowel. Magnesium draws water to the stool (hence milk of

magnesia), and calcium draws it away, thereby binding the stool up. We want as

fast unencumbered elimination as we can get. -D
