Working in partnership with the National AIDS Control Organisation (NACO) and Prasar Bharati, and with funding support from UK government's Department for International Development, BBC WST produces public service announcements and two award-winning television serials: Jasoos Vijay and Haath se Haath Milaa. BBC World Service Trust believes that audience research and evaluation plays an important role in the success of our media projects. Working closely with BBC WST's Research and Learning Unit in London and BBC WST Delhi-based management and creative team, the Head of Research Team will manage a research team and oversee all aspects of quantitative and qualitative research for the BBC WST's HIV/AIDS media project in India. You will be an experienced researcher with a minimum of 7 years experience (at least 3 years supervising others) and strong analytical skills in quantitative and qualitative research. It is imperative that you can demonstrate the ability to clearly communicate key research findings to a diverse, creative and production-oriented audience. The Head of Research Team will work closely with BBC WST's Research and Learning Unit in London on study design, analysis and reporting. Managing a team (expected to be made up of five staff), the Head of Research Team will be responsible for all liaison with Indian research agencies, monitoring and ensuring the quality of research and deliverables, and meeting all deadline and budgetary requirements. Main Duties: 1. Design quantitative research (e.g., sampling, questionnaire, analysis plan) to evaluate the impact of the BBC WST campaign outputs. 2. Design of qualitative research (e.g., sampling, discussion guides, stimulus materials) for a mass media HIV/AIDS campaign, comprising formative research and pre-testing of media outputs. 3. Design of audience feedback monitoring to describe the audiences and evaluate the impact of the BBC WST campaign outputs. 4. Commission and supervise contracted research agencies, working to budget and deadline requirements. 5. Liaise with field agencies to monitor quality and timely delivery of research. 6. Analyse and interpret quantitative and qualitative research for the creative/production teams on a regular basis. 7. Present findings and recommendations from quantitative and qualitative research to the creative/production teams, senior managers of BBC World Service Trust, partners and donors. 8. Manage team of research staff, planning and coordinating all research activities to fit production timelines and other project milestones and reporting obligations. Required Knowledge, Skills and Experience: 1. Advanced graduate degree in Market Research, Social Sciences or Public Health. 2. Minimum 7 years experience in research, at least 3 of which have involved supervision and management. 3. Excellent understanding of quantitative and qualitative research methodologies and analysis techniques. 4. Competency in all aspects of Microsoft Office programmes, SPSS and QSR Nudist software. Competency in Desktop publishing software would be desirable. 5. Excellent written and oral communication skills, including report writing. 6. Strong English communication skills essential. Hindi essential and at least one other Indian language desirable. 7. Experience with media research and/or health promotion experience desirable. Note: The position will be based in Delhi. Trips typically will last 2-3 weekdays, but occasionally up to one week of travel may be required.
