Does anyone know for sure if drinking powdered drinks every day can

cause gallstones? Each day I make my mom and myself a powdered drink

containing powdered milk, powdered carrots, powdered beets, broccoli

etc.... My brother claims he got gallstones (or so the Dr. told him

this) from drinking powdered mixes for building muscles etc.

Also I made three attempts to make split pea soup and no matter how long

I soaked the split peas or cooked the soup (soaking until it stunk and

cooking until it tasted burned in my crockpot) it always turns out with

HARD peas. I can't get the peas to make soup!!! Any ideas as to what

I might be doing wrong??? Anyone happen to know or have a similar

experience?

Thanks. Steph

Hi Steph....

Try soaking the peas for at least 24 hours. make sure you use plenty of water

in pot and slow cook them on a low flame....

I am curiuos about powdered drinks too...dunno

I have this Isagenix stuff which I am afraid to use because I just don't

know....

powdered protein drinks can be hard on the kidneys in large quantities but

should have little effect on the formation of gallstones. Don't know where the

dr got their info. If you have any acid in the water the peas will never cook.

Adding wine, citrus, vinegar etc. should always be done after they are cooked.

Don't know if you were adding all the ingredients before cooking... Depending

on your water supply there could be a chemical issue there (to hard, etc.). -d

Honestly, I don't think anyone knows for sure exactly what causes gallstones to

form. There are all kinds of unproven theories flying around out there.

It's most likely because the peas you're using are old. From what I understand,

if dried split peas are too old, no amount of soaking or cooking will soften

them.
