Guest guest
Tina, Thanks for the information. It sounds like you are in exactly the right place with the right physician. The benefit of course will be a " revision " for the additional weight loss which I know you want too! Please let me know how things turn out. Good luck! Bile reflux , I don't think you're being argumentative at all. I will know more when I meet with the surgeon on Monday, but from what Dr.Sheehan explained to me is that there will be two connections in the intestine and it will be further away from the stomach which will give it much less chance of filling the stomach. He says that this should help the bile not to back up into the stomach. Dr.Sheehan has seen several MGB patients and all of them have been happy with their results. To be quite honest, I'm won't know the specifics until I meet with the surgeon and pick his brain about what will or won't be done. Dr.Sheehan was familiar with the MGB and Dr.Rutledge so that helps cause he knows basically what my plumbing looks like. Also the RNY will allow me to lose the weight I need to lose. I stopped losing at 6 months and have gained about 8 pounds back. For a total loss of 54 pounds. I really need to lose another 50-60 pounds just to make me healthy. I'm 4'11 " and I weight in at about 180. I started at 234 when I had the MGB 8/2/99. I'll be glad to let you know what the surgeon has to say on Monday. I'm still a little confused about things myself. All I know is that I need to do something about the bile problem. It's no fun! Tina Tina, I have a question and I promise I am not just being argumentative. There are people out there that have had a RNY and are also having bile reflux. Why does Dr. Sheehan believe that changing your MGB to a RNY will " cure " your reflux? It is my understanding that bile reflux can occur in either types of surgery. Like I said -- I am not saying he doesn't know what he is doing -- I am merely searching for knowledge in case I have to make the same decisions down the road. Thanks! in GA
Guest guest
Tina, I am wondering if your insurance company is covering your revision to an RNY? And if so, what kind of health insurance do you have? Does anyone know if BCBS of NC will pay for surgery converting the MGB to the RNY if determined necessary due to bile reflux problems into the stomach? Just curious... Guest guest
Hi, are you taking your prevacid? It could be iron. You may have to go to a non iron multivitamin and then take a separate iron called Gentle Iron by Sulgar or another brand. I have to do that myself. aW -- Bile reflux I have another question for the longer-term post-ops on the list. I've been having a lot of nausea lately and it's been getting a little bit worse all the time. I thought it might be the iron in my vitamins and stopped them for a few days, but the nausea did not go away. Now, I know what the nausea was. I'm refluxing bile and tonight vomited some---yuk! That has to be the worst tasting stuff in the world. I'm a little worried because this did not start until about 4 1/2 weeks out. Has anyone else experienced it and did it go away on its own. If not, what can be done for it. There is not a lot in the Patient Manual---just to use flat soda pop to rinse out the taste. Isn't there anything that can be done to stop the reflux? Or the nausea? Thanks for any help anyone can give. Pat 12/29/02 250/

Guest guest
What!!!!!!!!!!!! Pepto for 3 more months for everybody? When did that come about? I was so glad to get rid of the black tongue. 12/16/02 298/
Guest guest
Yes, I am taking it every day. Dana also told me to stay on the Pepto Bismol for three more months. She said everyone is supposed to do that now, but it has not been changed in the Manual yet. Today, when I spoke with her, she said she thinks I have H. pylori and she called in the meds for me to take. She said I might even feel worse after starting the meds for a few weeks. (!!?) Guest guest
Dana said I could go on the pepto tablets, since I was 2-3 mos out at the time from surgery. The meds I took in place of the prev pak did make me feel kinda blah, but now that its over I feel much better. Guest guest
Hi . I've had it about 3 or 4 times. (Once was pretty scary at that moment - think I aspirated some of it.) I am 21 months post op. BTW - as scary as it kinda was? I think I can say it was not nearly as scary as the daily internal torcher I felt while morbidly obese. Kind regards, Marley 6-24-04 -100 (yup.. go there mid- March!) >Just wondering how bad any of you have suffered from it post surgery? --------------------------------- Talk is cheap. Guest guest
<< >Just wondering how bad any of you have suffered from it post surgery?>> I have had it so badly that I literally burned my esophagus and nostrils on 2 occasions; having been woken up by it from a sound sleep. In total I think I've had it 5 times. I have no idea what triggered it because I did not eat late nor eat acidic/ " incorrect " foods. After awhile I could sort of tell if I thought it would happen (but obviously not if I'm in the middle of sleeping). My PCP gave me a sample of Prevacid to try, taken before bed on nights where I think it MAY occur. I suppose the med works because on those nights I didn't get it at all. It isn't pleasant and it is downright frightening. Hope it gets better for you. Best regards, Patty A (formerly Patty H) 5'4 " , 253/147/??? 8/25/03, MGB, Stsvl, Drs. Guest guest
Hi everybody, I have done long research in regard of my GERD. I was found I don`t have acid reflux at all but some non-acid reflux is present. It seems it is bile reflux I had read about in the past. It is no less damaging that acid but don`t change after lifestyle adjustment or drugs. It is recommended to take other type of acid like OX acids to move bile and again antacids or to do operation for pyloric valve which probably damaged. I do have sluggish GB and probably candida and allergies even probably allergic esophagitis. But it wasn`t confirmed by test too bc it is not always detected. I wonder if somebody else have reflux from bile or other reason and have someting to say about that. My doc dont know much about that though he wrote order for Ph test with impedence I asked him. He said bile can`t go so far in the esophagus, so forget about that. Any thoughts where to find doc who know more about that?

Guest guest
Thanks I am intolerant to both Vinegar and chia. Nothing is so damaging for me that vinegar, it is old remedy for people who have iron stomach not for my inflamed gut. My question is about what kind of doctor can treat GB and liver problen? It seems GI doc don`t know much about that. Is hepatologist is right person to ask about bile reflux? My GB and other orgasns were fine last US test but I don`t belive it. Even liver pump massage make change for me. > > From: IMS <imsinfo@...> > Subject: Bile reflux > gallstones > Date: Tuesday, September 22, 2009, 5:17 PM > > > > > > > > > > > > > Hi everybody, > > > > I have done long research in regard of my GERD.
