Guest guest
I am not an advocate of any surgery for which there is a safe alternative, and believe it should be used only as a last resort. Having said that, I will say this: if you have been positively diagnosed with gallstones, or gravel in your gallbladder, get it out ASAP, before you get a really nasty inflammation or other serious complications. I was taught, in my nursing education, that cancer of the gallbladder is rarely found in the absence of stones. This would seem to suggest that irritation from gallstones tends to encourage the growth of cancer cells, no? It is 10 years since I retired from nursing, so maybe the thinking has changed in recent years, but this is still one thing for which I myself would submit to surgery. Gallbladder surgery procedures are greatly improved, and it is not nearly such an ordeal as it used to be. It is safer, with a much shorter recovery period. Just gather all the information you can to make an informed decision. I can't address your question about the Crohn's connection. Good luck! Guest guest
Konnie, Just to add to your statements, In my 30+ years in surgery I have seen very little primary gallbladder cancers. This may be because most people want them out due to discomfort or as you point out the nasty inflammation, and it doesn't get a chance to develop. I'll have to ask about that. . I think most GB cancers are pretty much invasive from liver or pancreas lesions. See a LOT of this in ultrasound endoscopy these days. it is frightening. As far as laparoscopic cholecystectomy, It really is a much safer surgery now, minimal anesthesia and better views of the anatomy. This means fewer complication from the trauma of a huge incision and long surgeries with the corresponding embolii. I think Hoss from the Ponderosa died in his 30s after a long cholecystectomy from a PE. They did try lithotripsy for awhile, but it was not effective. It would be nice to have gallstone busting medication and eliinate the surgery, but even then the wallls of the gallbladder get thick and indurated from the inflammation and it just stops working in some. At least we have a surgical solution when needed. I am going to e-mail one of the nurses in endoscopy and see if she knows anything about the relationshi to crohns. i am happily vacationing in Hilton Head now and am unable to accost the GI docs! Guest guest
I have been keeping up with the posts lately and have gotten some good information. There is always something new to learn about AIH. I sure wish the hospitals and medical people were well informed. I was rushed into the Emergency last night with severe chest pains. It's the third time in the last 10 months. This time I was told it was definitely my gallstones. They wanted to operate immediately, but I was too concerned since I have always had to " explain " to the medical staff what AIH is all about. Eventhough, the pain was much greater this time, I didn't do the overnight stay in the hospital. My records will be sent to my gastro and I'll have to take it from there.  I do have an important question to ask and hope someone out there may have an answer. Has anyone had their gallbladder removed and, if so, did you have to get off your meds in advance to the operation? Again, if so, for how long before the operation? I am on Azathioprine and a few other meds. Sure would appreciatae some input here!  Welcome to all the newcomers on this site.  Always wishing everyone well. Ellie -whereyaheaded@...> Subject: [ ] Just wanted to Share liversupport-L Date: Monday, March 16, 2009, 6:18 PM Cookie recipe after the story When decent people get screwed over, this is the result! A little background: Neiman-Marcus, if you don't know already, is a very expensive store; i.e., they sell your typical $8.00 T-shirt for $50.00. THIS IS A TRUE STORY! My daughter and I had just finished a salad at a Neiman-Marcus Cafe In Dallas, and we decided to have a small dessert. Because both of us are such cookie lovers, we decided to try the 'Neiman-Marcus cookie.' It was So excellent that I asked if they would give me the recipe and the waitress said with a small frown, 'I'm afraid not, but you can buy The Recipe.' Well, I asked how much, and she responded; ' Only two fifty - it's a Great deal!' I agreed to that, and told her to just add it to my Tab. Thirty days later, I received my VISA statement, and the Neiman-Marcus Charge was $285.00! I looked again, and I remembered I had only spent $9.95 for two salads and about $20.00 for a scarf. As I glanced at the bottom of the statement, it said,' Cookie Recipe-$250. 00.' That was Outrageous! I called Neiman's Accounting Department and told them the waitress said it was 'two-fifty', which clearly does not mean 'two hundred and fifty dollars' by any reasonable interpretation of the phrase. Neiman-Marcus refused to budge. They would not refund my money because, according to them, 'What the waitress told you is not ourproblem. You have already seen the Recipe. We absolutely will not refund your money at this point.' I explained to the AccountingDepartmen t lady the criminal statutes which govern fraud in the Stateof Texas . I threatened to report them to the Better Business Bureau and the Texas Attorney General's office for engaging in fraud. I was basically told, do what you want, don't bother thinking of how you can get even, and don't bother trying to get any of your money Back. I just said, Okay, you folks got my $250, and now I'm going to have $250 worth of fun. I told her that I was going to see to it that every Cookie Lover in the United States with an e-mail account has a $250 cookie recipe From Neiman-Marcus. ..for free. She replied, 'I wish you wouldn't do this.' I said, 'Well, perhaps you should have thought of that before you ripped me off!' and slammed down the phone. So here it is! Please, please, please pass it on to everyone you can possibly think of. I paid $250 for this, and I don't want Neiman-Marcus to EVER make another penny off of this recipe! NEIMAN-MARCUS COOKIES (Recipe may be halved) 2 cups butter 24 oz. Chocolate chips 4 cups flour 2 cups brown sugar 2 tsp. Soda 1 tsp. Salt 2 cups sugar 1 8 oz. Hershey Bar (grated) 5 cups blended oatmeal 4 eggs 2 tsp. Baking powder 2 tsp. Vanilla 3 cups chopped nuts (your choice) Measure oatmeal, and blend in a blender to a fine powder. Guest guest
Hi I had my gall bladder removed, had no change to meds.(though whenever i have a procedure i get antibiotic cover beforehand. ) the only difference to per usual was they kept me in a little longer to watch for infection.(in nz gall bladder by laporoscopy is usually only an overnight admission) my gastro even had the surgeon sneak in a liver biopsy while i was under, so i didn't have to have the waking experience that year! don't hold out from fear, the pain is not worth it, and you risk having your gall bladder or bile duct becoming infected. but i'm sure talking to your gastro will ease your mind. amber On Sun, Apr 26, 2009 at 12:28 AM, tonismail2 <twhite2@...> wrote: > > > When I had my gallbladder out I was not on Imuran yet. Guest guest
I had my gall bladder removed and did not have to go off any of my meds. I was on Imuran and never changed the dosage. I did increase the prednisone for a few days and take an antibiotic. It was such a relief to get the surgery over with. I felt so much better. My G.I. worked with the surgeon and all went well. I am sure that your G.I. will be able to make sure everyone is up to speed on what you need for a successful surgery. Good luck I know how painful it is. Guest guest
I heard that the malic acid in the apple juice softens the gall stones and makes it easier to excrete when they do the cleanse using epsom salts. But thank-you for telling us that apple juice is really the key and that it also works. I like to use remedies that have been passed down thru generations. phine > > Don't any of you know about using cold-pressed > apple juice, to soften & relieve the passage of > your gallstones? > > I passed 33 pinkie to thumbnail sized gallstones > last month & intend on doing 1st of February. > It's not a quick fix, so educate yourself about it. > I did a different version of it 1st time, had very > light production from it. >  R. > > > > >

Guest guest
I did another person type of cleanse, recommend it to my son who was told by his doctor to prepare to have gall bladder surgery. He did the slower method that I did my 1st time, then he found the book by s Moritz available on Amazon.com for less than $15.00, gives great details on how to do a effective gall bladder cleanse. I received the results that I wrote about earlier by doing the one by s Moritz. He also mentions that it may take 6 to 8 times to get cleaned out properly. I also know of someone else that did this cleanse, and their blood pressure really dropped down when passing, so don't do this alone if you have low blood pressure. ________________________________ From: Roni Molin <matchermaam@...> gallstones Sent: Thu, January 21, 2010 1:52:09 PM Subject: Re: GALLBLADDER  No, I never heard of this. I passed 33 pinkie to thumbnail sized gallstones last month & intend on doing 1st of February. It's not a quick fix, so educate yourself about it. I did a different version of it 1st time, had very light production from it.  R.

Guest guest
Some have issues with gallbladder and fast weight loss, some don't. I'm getting a work up on this very issue tomorrow. I KNOW I have issues, I'm just not surgery is the fix. On Tue, Mar 9, 2010 at 5:07 PM, <mj_peter@...> wrote:  Hi all, Has anybody had to have their gallbladder removed because of their VSG weight loss? I'm a little concerned about this and forgot to ask Dr. A about it. Just wondering what everybody's experiences had been. Guest guest
Hello, I had My Sleeve 2 years ago today !!! Yippie!!! Sorry back tp the question.I did have my Gall Bladder out last March. 1 year after the surgery. There is no way of proving or disproving weather or not it was caused by the weight loss but I did have a few attacks, then a bad one, went to the Dr and my gall Bladder was more than half full of stones. Very easy procedure to have it removed. I did know going into this that that was a risk and I was ok with it. 211 lbs gone as well as the Gall Bladder and no looking back ! Hope it helps. Guest guest
I read one peer reviewed study that found that without medication, 30% of WLS patients have gallbladder disease following surgery, with medication (Actigall) 3% have gallbladder disease. The rapid loss of fat stores puts us at risk and the recommendation of some docs is to take Actigall during rapid weight loss phase (Losing 10 or more pounds a month.) I asked my doc to write a presription, as I would like to avoid another surgery if possible.Cheers,MargoOn Wed, Mar 10, 2010 at 6:30 PM, Marie Friedman <apanther97@...> wrote:  Hello,  I had My Sleeve 2 years ago today !!! Guest guest
Interesting! My rapid weight loss phase has passed so hopefully I'm safe. We'll see. I wouldn't just start taking some medication without knowing the side effects of it, and they all have them. Just my 2 cents. > > > > > > From: <mj_peter@...> > > Subject: Gallbladder > > > > Date: Tuesday, March 9, 2010, 7:07 PM > > > > > > > > Hi all, > > > > Has anybody had to have their gallbladder removed because of their VSG > > weight loss?
