Guest guest
Hi Steph. The product you bought was not an ascorbate no matter what it says on the front of the label. They are taking the sodium and mixing it with ascorbic acid and calling it an ascorbate. Fully reacted ascorbates take time in the lab so it is a common adulteration to just mix the mineral and acid together and call it what it is not. Ester C is a good fully reacted ascorbate but there are others. Got to read the back portion to make sure. I prefer Magnesium, calcium, potassium and zinc ascorbates to sodium just because of the deficiencies in the above minerals and the over consumption of sodium in our culture. Probably the best source of V-C is amla fruit. 4 times higher than acerola and for some reason is not destroyed by heat. This is a spectacular herb, so much so that Deepak has formed a multi level around it. All the best. DAVE---sodium ascorbate Dave, (if you happen to know this) I ordered some sodium ascorbate because my PH level is so acidic I cannot tolerate citrus or ascorbic acid, hoping I could tolerate the sodium ascorbate. However, after getting it in the mail today I read the lable and ingredience as I always do before taking something, and noticed it was simply a combination of sodium bicarbonate and ascorbic acid. I never thought about what it might be until I got it LOL. Now then, a couple years ago Duncan Crow (is he here?) said that taking sodium bicarbonate to help an acid stomach would only make things worse, so of course, my question is----is sodium ascorbate a very good thing to take day after day? I am trying to boost my vitamin C level but just can't tolerate ascorbic acid. I eat a lot of blueberries, pomegranetes, stawberries, rasberries etc.. but don't know if I am getting enough vitamin C that way. Would be good if I could find a form of vitamin C I could tolerate especially during cold and flue season but seems I can't find anything. What foods other than citrus and berries is high in vit. C? Guest guest
If someone is over acid taking sodium bicarbonate will not make things worse as long is it is not at meals. I think Duncan's reference was probably about the fact that most people are not over but under acid in which case it will definitely screw up digestion. Taken with the ascorbic acid though should buffer the effect. -D DAVE---sodium ascorbate Dave, (if you happen to know this) I ordered some sodium ascorbate because my PH level is so acidic I cannot tolerate citrus or ascorbic acid, hoping I could tolerate the sodium ascorbate. Guest guest
Thankyou Dave, but I guess my real question here was more like, if sodium bicarbonate has tons of sodium, then using it over a long period of time like a lifetime taking it with vitamin C, wouldn't that be bad for blood pressure???? Especially in my case where my adrenals are exceedingly low and I crave salt so eat more sea salt than I should. What do you think? Or would that not be a problem? There is also a ton of sodium in other products that you eat such as chicken broth etc..etc...so seems that the " buffered " vitamin C would be over doing it. ON the other hand, if I don't take that type of vitamin C, I am not ever going to get to take any as I just can't tolerate it and vitamin C is something I need excessively in my condition====especially with winter coming on. (Can't tolerate high acid fruits either.) Feels like another 22 trap. Steph
Guest guest
OOOOPS sorry Dave, I was reading my e-mails backwards so didn't see your other message until I replied again. Anyway, I tried ester C and that made me just as sick. Not just sick to my stomach but sick all over the place, flat in bed in a coma state. There has to be a way for me to get a bunch of C down myself daily. I need to alkalize but there again, I have a problem. I purchased a tyent water device thinking I would drink the alkaline water and wala, all would be better.. However, once again the catch-22 zapped me. The alkaline water burns my stomach and keeps me from digesting food---just too sick for it and stomach is too inflamed and additionally you can't take suppliments or anything else with high alkaline water or it greatly inhances the effects, which for me are mostly bad and I am always taking something to try and survive. Strangely, the baking soda does not have the effect that the alkaline water does and it doesn't bother me. Figures. I need to kill off all the bugs and the fungus first so I can heal a bit, but how do you do that in an over acidic condtion? Duncan worked with me awhile back and I tried like heck to do everything he said to do, but the problem is I can't take this and that and the other thing because I am so sick and reactive. The big problem is the leaking gut is so bad that everything just leaks through and I am instantly experienceing near death poison reactions if I take even the slightest wrong thing. No tolerance for most foods or any meds and a lot of suppliments. Vitamin C is one of those things unfortunately, including acid fruits. Just eating anything at all bothers me to some degree. Several years ago, I tried not eating at all and just doing greens and vegies. for nearly three years. I got so deficient that I was in pain all over my body and the fungus and other bad bacteria still didnt' die even with all of the thousands of dollars in antifungals antibacterial stuff I took. I could have bought a new car literally, with all the money I spent on antifungals, electronic devices, suppliments and expensive " programs " . The electronic devices work great for viruses and external infections and probably larger parasites, but do absolutely nothing against fungus or intestinal bacteria. I overdosed on good bacteria and that didn't help either. Now I can't afford that stuff anymore since my hubby passed a few years ago, nor to be running to doctors. All of this to try and explain the situation better before other suggestions are made. All I can think of is that somewhere or someway, there is an answer to this situation, but I just havn't found it yet. I keep telling myself, just hang in there and keep asking questions and keep searching and keep trying new things------ Steph
Guest guest
K. Ascorbates most likely will not be the answer then. There are a very small percentage of people who are allergic to V-C... I do not understand it either... But there are more who have a corn protein intolerance. Next step, get some V-C derived from sago palm, and try a small amount. If no problem increase daily until you reach desired dose or have problems in which case we go back to square one. Need to know more about the possible fungus/yeast/bacterial concerns. Sometimes they are there, sometimes they are not, in which case we chase red herring... As to leaky gut: doesn't matter invader or not, we want to get you on some type of astringent to complex the proteins in the intestinal wall. Typical herbs are gallnut (strongest), Geranium (strong), Amur cork tree bark, praying mantis egg case (gentle), triphala (mild). See a lot of this. No need to suffer. Email off group if you need. -D Re: DAVE---sodium ascorbate OOOOPS sorry Dave, I was reading my e-mails backwards so didn't see your other message until I replied again. Guest guest
Your constitution requires more " salt " than others. Salt being any mineral/acid combo. This includes potassium, magnesium, zinc, etc. So while " salt " is good for you, over predominance of sodium may not. Keeping in mind that sodium salts are predominate in both nature and the human body so we should be getting a predominance of sodium salts... If you do not have a problem with sodium ascorbate, you should not have a problem with other mineral ascorbates. Because you crave salt, which is not bad, and you eat a lot of sea salt, other mineral ascorbates (than sodium) are probably better. -D Re: DAVE---sodium ascorbate Thankyou Dave, but I guess my real question here was more like, if sodium bicarbonate has tons of sodium, then using it over a long period of time like a lifetime taking it with vitamin C, wouldn't that be bad for blood pressure????
