Guest guest
http://www.wellwithin1.com/TBtest.htm my page where I have a link about the blood test and how to find it. I would NOT get the TB test Sheri At 09:54 PM 2/25/2012, you wrote: So my husband and I want to adopt out of foster care but they require that everyone in the house gets a TB test. Both of my boys (5 and 2 years old) are not vaccinated and I don't want them to get a TB test. So I did a search in this group and found out about the alternate test. I'm not sure that the state would accept this, but if they do, where would I go about trying to find out who can test it. Since it needs to be tested within 12 hrs of drawing the blood it would obviously have to be local. I live in Kansas. Guest guest
Actually, you have more time than 10hours. According to the CDC, it's 8-30 hours, depending on which blood test you get: (http://www.cdc.gov/tb/publications/factsheets/testing/IGRA.htm) However, they do recommend the skin test over the blood test for under age 5, so that might be an issue for the 2 year-old. And it doesn't show if you've presently got TB. But you don't need to mention that. Let them look it up. Here's what I would do: get the blood tests done ASAP so you know what the results are before pushing for it. Hopefully they will be good. Print this out: (http://www.cdc.gov/tb/publications/factsheets/testing/skintesting.htm) which shows there are false-negative and false-positive results with skin tests. Then present that along with the test results, and confidently tell them you've already covered this and stun them with what proactive parents you are. Guest guest
What about the TB skin scratch test? I took this one rather than the chest X ray. Course, it may be very dangerous too.. I'm curious what is thought about the scratch test. Guest guest
Isn't the scratch test the same as the TB test? Isn't it when they inject the supposedly inactive TB under the skin? That is what I am trying to avoid. I'll let Sherri confirm this though. Guest guest
all TB tests are dangerous - see my webpage http://www.wellwithin1.com/TBtest.htm all contain TB material and also contain phenol Sheri At 05:59 AM 2/27/2012, you wrote: What about the TB skin scratch test? Guest guest
all TB tests contain TB material It is a little confusing because of the different names Not sure what you mean by a scratch test There is the tine - a small button like thing with tiny little needles on or there are the ones injected just under the skin with a syringe/needle TB tine test http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tine_test TB PPD or Mantoux test http://www.drugs.com/mmx/tuberculin-purified-protein-derivative.html http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mantoux_test http://www.cdc.gov/tb/topic/testing/default.htm http://tbevidence.org/resource-center/sop-package-inserts/#tuberculin hope that helps Sheri At 10:33 AM 2/27/2012, you wrote: Isn't the scratch test the same as the TB test?
