Flu has just appeared in CT

I just watched a news video that the flu has finally shown its face in CT. So, I googled some articles from the fall for fun, and found this one:

FYI-- Polito is the resident idiot at our area health district. Reading what she says makes it clear she is merely parroting the party line because you know her words did not originate from her original research.

This from a pharmacist: Even though the strains are "the same ones as last year, last year's shot likely won't be effective now. People should get immunized again.

Now wait. Isn't the whole reason you need to get new shots each year because the strains are different each year? When they're the same, why wouldn't the shot still be effective?
