Guest guest
Actually, not to split hairs or anything, but scarlet fever IS strep throat with a rash. Strep throat doesn't turn into scarlet fever. It is caused by the same group A strep bacteria, but they give off a toxin that causes the rash in scarlet fever. As someone who had scarlet fever a few years ago, I can't imagine missing it - the rash is quite distinctive, and the person with it usually feels REALLY bad. But I suppose people could have a very mild rash. At any rate, untreated strep/scarlet fever can cause rheumatic fever. Susceptibility to rheumatic fever (like a close relative who has had it) is one of the indications that PANDAS may be present in children with OCD. They are both caused by strep bacteria attacking the wrong thing. So... get those antibodies checked!!!
Guest guest
I didn't know that- I had untreated strep at about 9 yrs old and the tech who later did an EEG said he thought I had developed rheumatic fever. I can't recall how/if my parents followed up on it, but I have always had a noticeable heart murmur. Grace > Actually, not to split hairs or anything, but scarlet fever IS strep throat > with a rash. Hi Scarlet Fever has definitely decreased in frequency as well as severity, in the last 30+ years. When I was a child in the 50's it was very common. It was very common in history, written about by Hahnemann the discover of homeopathy. He found Belladonna was one of the most important homeopathic remedies for the symptom picture of Scarlet Fever. But, as I said, the severity of Scarlet Fever has diminished greatly. It is easily treated with Homeopathy and does NOT require antibiotic treatment in my experience (although allopaths will tell you that it does because it is connected with strep). But in homeopathy the so-called causative 'bacteria' or 'virus' is not important. It is the symptom picture that is important and the person is treated according to that, not the name of the disease or the so-called cause. This is a prime example of the severity of an illness diminishing WITHOUT a vaccine. The same is the case of all the other diseases with vaccines associated with them. For these illnesses " they " will tell you it is because of the vaccine. It is NOT. There are many possible factors - sanitation, hygiene, improved living conditions, improved nutrition, quality of water, etc. Measles, etc, had already decreased in severity long before the vaccine - deaths and serious injury were way down. The more serious injuries or few deaths were in those that had other serious immune system problems, malnutrition or other outside factors. Hope that helps. Guest guest
About 10 years ago, when my daughter first got scarlet fever, they avoided using the term, instead saying the rash she had was due to the strep infection. When I looked it up myself (due to other odd symptoms she was having) and asked her doctor about it, the doc dismissed it, saying that scarlet fever was simply " strep with a rash. " (She continued to get " strep with a rash " many times over the next few years). So, I suspect that it still the case today -- docs probably avoid using the term. > > I am showing my ignorance but when I was achild scarlet fever and > scarlettina was quite big among the childhood diseases.have they > changed what these diseases are called or have they been eradicated? if > so how.thank you and god bless. >

A strep infection left untreated develops into scarlet fever. Untreated strep also leads to rheumatic fever leading to reumatic heart disease. Strep as we know also causes neurological symptoms - OCD, tics. Jackie
Guest guest
had scarlet fever last year. I find it amazing that he couldn't tell me he had a sore throat and then all of a sudden he got this rash and it was full blown scarlet fever. A few antibiotics and he was just fine. Scary though. Any immune system disorder you can think of hits my kids. Right now they have Fifth Disease. > > > > I am showing my ignorance but when I was achild scarlet fever and > > scarlettina was quite big among the childhood diseases.have they > > changed what these diseases are called or have they been eradicated? > if > > so how.thank you and god bless. > > A strep infection left untreated develops into scarlet fever. > Untreated strep also leads to rheumatic fever leading to reumatic > heart disease. Guest guest
I believe my youngest had it last year. She got strep throat one Friday night and within hours her body was BRIGHT RED. Not like a flushed but like a, " Wow, now I know why they call it scarlett fever! " Thankfully our very kind doctor called in antibiotics -- I bought a rapid strep test kit so I can check any of the family when I suspect strep, that's how I knew what it was. Within a few hrs after antibiotics were begun the redness went away, but it seemed to come back a little a few hrs after the first round of antibiotics, but after that round it was gone for good. Guest guest
I'm very familiar with the rapid strep kits. The *only* thing my son gets after every infection is 3-4 months of sever tics, OCD, and fearfulness. I really wish we could get more biomedical studies done on PANDAS. > > I believe my youngest had it last year. She got strep throat one > Friday night and within hours her body was BRIGHT RED. Guest guest
My daughter with autism doesn't get tics/OCD, but she never seems to completely rid herself of infection. I'd like to try a long-term trial of antibiotics & see what happens, she always cognitively improves while on them. Debi -
Guest guest
Is Sam verbal? main symptom I had was a really sore throat, so if he can tell you that then great. Maybe have the image ready to hand in case. Mine was followed by a tomato red face. It was treated with industrial strength antibiotics. Scarlet fever is completely treatable these days but the symptoms are quite dramatic - red face, pustules. Really attractive. I burnt my face from the inside with it but it did recover!! > > > >  > > A child who has been playing closely with my children over the last few days has gone down with scarlet fever. > Just wondering if there is anything I can do to prevent or what to do and it's consequences if sam gets it? > Thanks > > Kirsty > X > Sent from my iPhone >
Guest guest
I had scarlett fever years ago. I had a fever, then turned bright tomato red from top to bottom. It later peeled off like a sunburn.. My parents were frantic because in the pre-WW2 days they quarantined people with it. (It's the rheumatic fever part that people used to fear the most. It's a strep infection of some sort.....which is known to target the heart.) In the modern era of antibiotics, the worry about the rheumatic fever has largely been forgotten and the disease is not considered that serious anymore because it's treatable. (Not trying to scare you here, just telling you what I learned.) If it were me nowadays, I'd be making sure I was taking in vitamin A and D and C. I remember I got it in the middle of winter and during exam stress so the two together probably didn't help.....I think I got the strep infection from my sister whose bandages I was changing daily. She had excema infected with strep and I had a cut in my finger. My finger swelled like a balloon overnight and several days later I turned bright red......That was the year I came down with a lot of things though, like impetigo, so I don't think my immune system was too good at the time. Also I was on one antibiotic after the other which I'm sure didn't help either. I'm sure if you gave Vit A, C and D to shore up Sam's defence system, he should be able to fight it off with no problem.
