Guest guest
Actually, required vaccines for those states are very limited. If you go to NVIC, here's the link for MS where it details how it's not a state law but from another ruling body called the Mississippi Institute of Higher Learning: (http://www.msdh.state.ms.us/msdhsite/_static/41,394,71,303.html) "Some colleges and junior colleges in the state have chosen to implement a measles-rubella immunity standard for college admission. Students should check with the college for required immunizations." (http://www.ihl.state.ms.us/board/downloads/policiesandbylaws.pdf) pg. 94: only MMR is required, Hep B only for those in health programs. For WV: (http://www.dhhr.wv.gov/oeps/immunization/requirements/Pages/default.aspx) if you click on the College & University link, it merely lists recommended vaccines, not legal requirements (maybe the law states somewhere that you have to have recommended ones but I don't see it and can't imagine that any state at this point requires the HPV vaccine). It could get tricky no matter what state you live in if your child goes to a private college, though. But you can find that info ahead of time. It just takes a bit of detective work. Guest guest
It's never too early to plan things. If nothing else, I think you'll discover it will likely not be a problem and that can put your mind at rest. However, calling them will probably only result in someone sharing their opinions rather than the law. You can get info directly from the college websites. Look under "student life" or "health services" to read their health forms and policies. But that generally won't give you info on exemptions or what the exact laws are in your state. That you can find at NVIC.org. The required vaccines are very few for college--and look for requirements, not recommendations. Huge difference. Private colleges, as with schools, might not have to follow the laws but they generally do. You do NOT need to vaccinate your children as babies, toddlers or even for high school in order to meet college requirements. They can be gotten any time before enrollment (except there might be several months required between a couple of them). All you have to do for school or college is get a specific number of vaccines. This is all moot if you use an exemption anyway, and they can be had at most colleges.
