What do you guys suggest about babies well visits? We delivered a perfect baby girl at a clinic on my midwifes farm. It was essentially a home birth at my midwife's house. Much better than me having to get my own ready (lol, seriously its been a tough busy few months.) We haven't taken our daughter to any MD yet, she is doing great, gaining weight right on track but my husband kind of wants her checked out professionally to be safe. She is 1 month old this week. Do others avoid all well visits? I skip them for older kids but I've always taken the babies in for 2 or 3 scheduled visits...I'm wanting to avoid the questions and pressure. Last time I was so bombarded that I signed a vaccine refusal form and the doctor asked me if I knew that I was putting my children at risk for deadly diseases... AND SAID YES!! UGH! I was just so upset and wanted out of there... =/ Advice? They are one of the few peds around and my preferred dr doesnt usually give me such a hard time but he was out.Jen FlickOn Mar 18, 2012, at 5:00 PM, Sheri Nakken wrote:

Thanks, and it was a good

saying anything, well, first because I'm never one to be silent. I think

these "experts" need to know we know the facts; second, because

they brought it up. I didn't. So, they don't get to take charge of that

topic around me. I will have the final word. But I'm very brief.

However, I remember when I used to feel I needed to defend myself

on every point and being upset that I didn't convince the doctors of

anything. And years ago the docs didn't have you sign a statement that

you were a terrible parent refusing these life-saving vaccines. Maybe new

parents should have ped visit "doulas."

First, congratulations! :)  Enjoy your babymoon.I didn't take my first baby (born at home, in water, with a homebirth midwife attending) until he was two-year-old and accidentally inhaled a pistachio into his bronchial passages.  I knew I could tell if he needed a Dr.'s attention, and he was perfect and healthy, so I decided to just keep him out of their clutches as long as could.  When #2 came along, my instincts were correct.  He needed medical intervention at 10 months, and ongoing, for severe food allergies.  To this day my oldest very RARELY sees a Dr., and I can probably count on one had the number of visits he's had. He's six.  My four-year-old has been many times, but again, he has needed it to save his life.  Trust your insticts, ALWAYS. They won't steer you wrong.

I totally avoid them. a friend asked me after Christian died ‘now you’ll be taking them right?’ and I still said NO WAY! Even though I have a ped who is very laid back and respects my right as a parent, I still don’t fuss. Who knows what germs are floating around and why take my WELL child to a place where SICK people are? The 2 separate waiting rooms are a joke b/c you have to walk through the well area to get to the sick area! Some waiting rooms aren’t even that. so why risk it? esp w/ one so little. If you have a feeling that you need to take the baby in, go but don’t leave the baby in their hands at all. 1 month should be safe but I don’t trust the allopathic system at all. their ‘ standard of care’ isn’t about what’s safe or best for each different patient, it’s about doing what everybody else does. I take them in for a 1 month c heck since that is just a weight check and then I blow them all off b/c they’re just all about vaccines and I really don’t care about percentiles either. Since you asked, if I had to do it over again, I would never take a baby to a pediatrician until they were in school. Baby hormones fog up our brains for at least a year and we tend to be more prone to giving in to pressure (at least I do!). If you don't have any reason to think your child has a problem, why pay someone to tell you what you already know AND put yourself in the position of being a target of the vaccine-pushers? The only way to avoid that pressure is to avoid the doctors.

Some people worry that it will come back to haunt them if they don't have a doctor in case you end up in the ER. If this is a concern (or even if it isn't), maybe you can find an alternative doc.

Anyway, congrats on your baby girl!

She's doing excellent! Our pediatrician keeps commenting on how he's never seen a baby with Downs Syndrome do things as well as she does. She meets milestones quicker than most, is incredibly smart and " there "  cognitively, and is just a pure joy. She never fusses or complains - just a happy, happy (very petite) two-year-old.  He always says, " Boy, Mrs. Roberg, I don't know what you're doing with her, but keep it up. She is phenemonal! " (He has a son with DS who will be graduating high school this year, and quite a few babies with DS in his practice.)  I always remind him that he DOES know what I'm doing differently than his other patients in that I don't vaccinate her! He doesn't want to discuss that... he just says, " I know, I know... .... Just keep doing all that you do. "  ;)

Another thing you can do is check with your midwife. My midwife

provided checks for weight and growth for the first year, so I was

able to keep up on all that without letting the allopaths get their

hands on my babies.

Know another mom on another list that has downs and isn’t vaxxing. the doctor said at the baby’s some check up how fabulous the muscle tone is and she’s like ‘yeah.. NOT vaxxing!”.. they don’t want to acknowledge the poison that they sell. It’s so sad!! Blind faith is BLIND.
