Guest guest
I heard that a chiropractor can sign the medical form for school in PA if we are not doing vaccines. Is that true? If so, is it written somewhere? Thanks,
Guest guest
As far as I know, PA only excepts a religious exemption form for schools, or a medical exemption if the child has had some kind of vaccine damage, which has to be proved by a doctor. Maybe if it's preschool, daycare, or a private school, a chiropractor can sign a form. Just google PA vaccine exemptions and you'll find lots of pages with some good info. I've already saved some of these documents on my computer for when my son has to go to school...he's only 18 mo, but doesn't hurt to start gathering info. early. Most people say just fill out the exemption form very simply. Check off religious reasons, state the law that allows this and nothing else. They're not allowed to ask what religion and why you believe what you do. From what I've read, PA is the easiest state to deal with, probably since we have so many Amish and Mennonite communities that don't vaccinate. Guest guest
PA does allow for both a religious, and moral or ethical exemption that you'd consider to be similar to a religous belief. I copied a generic form online and simply changed the " I " to " We " the parents... signed it and gave it to my daughter's Montessori school. Granted there's no way to know what will happen once we hit the public school system, but I have been told less is more when filling out this kind of form. It is true that you cannot be persecuted for your religious beliefs and you don't have to state what your religion is. Best not to elaborate:)Here is the letter I used: Immunization Exemption Letter (Current Date 00/00/2004) To Whom It May Concern: Re: Religious Exemption I, ___________________________________, being the legal guardian of ________________________________ object to the immunization requirements as outlined by the Department of Health of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania as defined in 28 PA. CODE CH.23 on the basis of a strong moral or ethical conviction similar to a religious belief as outlined in section § 23.84 Exemption from immunization. If you need a copy of the School Immunizations Rules and Regulations [28 PA. CODE CH. 23] for your records, I will be happy to provide you a copy. Sincerely, § 23.84. Exemption from immunization. [28 PA. CODE CH.23] (a) Medical exemption. Children need not be immunized if a physician or the physician's designee provides a written statement that immunization may be detrimental to the health of the child. When the physician determines that immunization is no longer detrimental to the health of the child, the child shall be immunized according to this subchapter. ( Religious exemption. Children need not be immunized if the parent, guardian or emancipated child objects in writing to the immunization on religious grounds or on the basis of a strong moral or ethical conviction similar to a religious belief. Guest guest
Thanks. My kids go to a charter school and I use the same form letter without problem. The school includes TB test under vaccines so I don't have to get the kids tested for that either (in the past I have done the blood test so they didn't have to get an injection of TB). But they still need to get a " well visit " checkup and we have to get that form filled out. I had heard that a chiropractor counts when filling out that form but I can't seem to find evidence of that. When I read the rules, it seemed like they would accept a doctor of osteopathy. I just wanted to ask here to double check since if anyone would know it would be you guys. I'm trying to phase out using my medical doctor for anything but ER visits of broken bones and such. So if I don't have to see him once a year (which is basically how much I see him these days) just to fill out a school form and listen to him push vaccines, it would make my day. > > > > > > I heard that a chiropractor can sign the medical form for school in PA if we are not doing vaccines.
