Guest guest
Hello, I saw Dr. Skubeck (I think that is his name) at Grandview Hospital and he knew CMT right away. I also went to University of PA Hospital, neurology dept where I saw the dept. head. Both Drs. said basically " Sorry, there is not anything I can do for you. You don't have to come back. " But they sent reports to my family practice for giving me the pain control, AFOs , physical and OT therapy. I am pleased with all the medical people I saw. Guest guest
Hi Pam, It's not Philadelphia, but I see Dr. Milind Kothari, D.O. at The Milton S. Hershey Medical Center in Hershey, PA. Not only does he specialize in neuromuscular diseases -- including CMT -- but the neuromuscular clinic at Hershey is a designated MDA clinic. If you're not already aware of the benefits of being treated at an MDA clinic, there is plenty of discussion in the archives. I highly recommend Dr. Kothari and the staff at Hershey Med. I have been seen there for about 3 years, and my father and two of my sisters see Dr. Kothari as well. Mark Fulton Mechanicsburg, PA
Guest guest
As a suggestion for an MD in the Philadelphia area, you could try Dr. Scherer at the Hospital of the University of Pa. He does a lot of work with CMT patients. P.
Guest guest
I went to Dr. Fishbeck at U of P and he never even suspected that I had a hip dysplasia. In fact, he set me up for steroid shots in my hip without so much as an X-ray. Both he and the Ortho he referred me to, informed me that I had bursitis and left it there. I was freaked by the needles and didn't go through with it. Four years later I had a complete hip replacement because my hip socket was deformed at birth and the top of my femur had been worn straight. So be careful. I assumed U of P would be an excellent resource, but their reputation doesn't mean much when the individual doctor doesn't live up to it. Guest guest
Pam: Where in town do you live. I am currently living in Warrington, Bucks Co. but lived in Fountain Hill/Bethlehem/town/Easton for 20 years before. I found a Dr. at the Abington Hospital that diagnosised my CMT a couple of years ago. I have also seen Dr. Steve Scherer in Philadelphia--in fact I have an appointment March 14 to see him again. I have been in touch with a Dr. in NY that is doing research with CMT 2. Write back--my email is enclosed. Sharon
