I write over them for emergency care only From: Chappell-Lakin <kchappelllakin@...> "vaccinations " <vaccinations > Sent: Monday, April 9, 2012 9:04 PM Subject: field trip exemption forms

Hi. Just wondering what you do about field trip forms where we have to sign that they can perform any medical procedure they deem necessary, and also that we won't file suit. Does anyone write up a separate request about vaccines? Do you just sign it and hope for the best? Do you know what happens if you don't sign? Our kids have these forms because they are doing overnight field trips. Thanks,

My son rewrites the form and states that the group responsible must make every effort to get hold of the parents in any emergency and gives the phone numbers where they can be reached, and that vaccinations cannot be given. Otherwise they would have free reign, and who knows what they would call an 'emergency'? There are few instances where there would be a true 'life or death' emergency where they could not contact the parent first.

I add in "except NO VACCINES are to be given, not even tetanus" and initial it. I also have prepped my kids that they are not to let anyone give them shots, and that adults like it when kids inform them of this (haha).

I also think it's a good idea to make your views known loud and clear to the school nurse and even the teachers who are going on the trip.

I was told once by a lawyer that signing that you won't file suit doesn't stop you from doing so. Maybe someone else has some experience with this?
