Hi,

The original one is a great one to start with. Rashelle used this one for years and years as the only tape and people did fine with it. The other tapes are relatively new additions to her line of products and were actually developed because of the listers on this list asking her for specific workout tapes. On the original tape Rashelle treats you as if you were in a private class with her and goes over the breathing technique very thoroughly. She also shows you many, many different positions that work the different areas of the body. This tape is not a workout tape. It is an instructional tape and shows you many positions so that you can design your own workout to work your specific targeted areas. At the end of the tape, she also shows you how to do an acupressure facelift. She also shares one of her favorite children's stories on perseverance called "Sugar "

The only other tape that really teaches the breath is the Oxygen Zoo tape, which Rashelle designed to teach children the technique. This tape is a teaching tape, then a workout tape. Rashelle also goes into a short nutrition lesson on correct nutrition for the best health.

Tape #1 and #2 are total body workouts. The stretchband includes part of #1 workout tape.

Hope this helps you,

Hi Everyone. I'm new to this group. I have been an off and on again BF'r, but in reading messages from another egroup I came to the conclusion people were having better luck with LL. I am 53 and in good health, but I need work on my legs, my arms are flabby, and my face is starting to sag. I am not muscular, but I am fairly strong. Which tapes would you recomend I start out with? I am anxious to order so I can get started right away. Hi,

I'm so glad that your're going to give this a try. I'm definitley

one of those people who prefer the LL technique.

I have the instructional video, and both workout tapes. I really

like workout #1 because le does standing exercises for the

legs. In workout #2, she does sitting exercises. Both are great,

but I prefer the standing because I seem to get a better tuck & lift

with the breath. Since using workout #1 regularly, I have noticed my

legs taking a very nice shape.

Since you already have the bodyflex background, you would probably do

fine with either the 20 min videos or the stretchband workout.

However, the instructional is always good to have around because it

thoroughly teaches the technique, it has a variety of exercises, and

also has the accupressure facelift.

Hope this helps and Good Luck!

ë Tara

Hi Melinda!

In a roundabout way, I guess you could say the prolapse and fissure

are caused by the surgery I had (I asked the same question of my

gastroenterologist!)... reason being, since I don't fully digest all

the food I eat, sometimes the colon can become irritated and set up

for infection - i.e., colitis - which causes diarrhea, etc. - which

in turn can cause the prolapse and fissure.

SO, in a way - yes! But then - I have always had a sensitive

digestive system. I'd have probably ended up with this malady even

without the surgery. The surgery probably caused it to happen

sooner. Out of about 350 in a local support group, there are maybe 5

of us with this problem.

I still would do the surgery again in a heartbeat! Butt cooties are

NOTHIN' compared to the health problems I had when I was morbidly

obese! ;)

Hi, I'm new too, and I know of the problems you

wrote about. I have had CP for 21 years and it ain't

getting better. Keeping relatively active (no running or

stair climbing allowed) seems to help as do frozen pea

compresses ;o) I haven't yet found any pain relive that

works. I would be interested to know of any theories...

I had an arthroscopy last year for a Cartilage

tear, they cleaned out my knee which seems to have

helped the crunching, but not the pain (one out of two

ain't bad)....

Hi Judey. Welcome to the Group.

Before you think about surgery, please do some more research and get

a 2nd opinion (you may need a 3rd, 4th & 5th opinion) from a doctor

who isn't a surgeon. You can always try the surgery after you've

exhausted all the other, less-invasive options, but once you've had

the surgery you can't undo it.

Lateral releases don't seem to work very well and can make your

problems worse. Read through some of the posts on this site and

you'll see. You can use the " Search Archive " feature on the home

page of this group.

You need to find a doctor who can figure out exactly what is wrong

with you that is causing your pain. Many members of this Group,

including me, have had good luck with doctors like pain specialists,

osteopathic doctors, doctors of applied kinesiology and other more

holistic types of doctors. In my case, my knee problem (diagnosed

by two doctors as CP) was actually a hip-alignment problem. I'm not

saying that is the case with you, but you need to seek out a doctor

who can find out, by thorough examination, what your true

disfunction is.

In the meantime, give us some more information and maybe we can

help. What led your doctor to the CP diagnosis? Did he take X-

rays? Is your knee-cap out of alignment? How, exactly, does your

knee rotate when you bend? What information did the doctor give you?

Good luck,

Doug

My dd (10) had a grand mal seizure at school... I never heard before that DS

kids were particularly susceptible. We change pediatricians and now have one

who actually wrote an article on siezures in kids with DS. The EEG came out

normal so now it's wait and see if this was just a flook (turns out a small

percentage of kids in the general population experience seizures during the

hormone rush of puberty) or if it repeats and we have to medicate.

Fortunately I've got a friend who has epilepsy and she has been a great

source of information on seizures.

Phew.... just as I was getting the IEPs under control!

HI Becky :)

First welcome to the group :) Im in Destin right now checking mail and saw

your post. I too have a 10 yr. old with ds/epilepsy, so we have a lot in

common :)

Sara was just taken off her epilepsy meds and Im watching her like a hawk.

Her Neuro told me eventually shell have to go back on it, puberty/hormones

can and usually does trigger seizures :( sooooooooooooo we probably have a

small window of a time frame without meds. Sara's meds effect her memory

soooooo much, had to slow down her reading pace, instead of 15 new words a

week we went down to 7.

When I get home we need to write :)

Becky,

Hi and welcome. my daughter is 11 and already in stage 4 of puberty

and definately an adolescent! It was very scary for me preparing her for

this stage in her life. But when I saw signs of development, i started

talking to her about her body and the changes to expect. We spent about a

year talking and reading books and trying to get videos on the subject.

I did get one video from the library and she watched it over and over. When

she got her period at 10, (yes very young, no delays in that area!), she was

very prepared and said, " cool, I'm a big girl now! " The day to day is a

little tough and she needs to be reminded about 500 times about how to take

care of herself. But she does pretty well. Try to tell her all girls will

go thru this and let her speak to her older sib or a cousin. Someone else

besides you. Also reinforce that it will happen every month! and last for

like 5 days.

Its a tough hurdle, but the more you talk about it, the easier it will be.

Now I'm on to my next talk about NO ONE touching her. This one is really

tough. But I worry about things like if she goes to a sleep over at a

girlfriends and there is an adult male there that i dont know......

Here's a question for those of you who have been thru this already - how much

should i tell her really about sex and getting pregnant????? That is

definately a big fear of mine!

Hmm, it sounds like you are doing leg raises. It is my impression that these

strengthen the quad muscles, especially the " VMO. " This is supposed to be a good

exercise for chondro. It is my understanding that to strengthen your hamstrings,

you need to lie on your stomach and raise each leg up with weights. For many

people, stretching their hamstrings is also really important.

See http://www.nismat.org/ptcor/pfp/ I see these same exercises with slight

variations in other materials on chondro.

Why are you trying to avoid a trip the PT? This would be a good source of info,

better than write-ups on the web, because the exercises don't work well unless

done right and there are limits to how well a simple diagram and description can

communicate this.

riotgrrlc wrote:Hello everyone. I am new to the group and hope that someone

problems with both of my knees for quite awhile and wasn't satisfied

with an early diagnosis of osteoarthritis. However, after extensive

testing and x-rays, both my physician and I are pretty certain that

chondromalacia is the correct diagnosis. I am disappointed however

that she couldn't offer all that much info about it. I am only doing

one simple excercise right now. I am using small (2 lb) weights and

while sitting, am extending my leg to a not quite straight position.

I am told that this will help to strenghthen my hamstrings. I would

however like to keep up with some of the aerobic excersises that seem

to have gotten me into this situation. Does anyone have a

recommendation for a certain type of brace that I should be wearing

when walking or riding a bike? There seems to be about half a

million braces to choose from, and I don't really know what I need.

Also if anyone has some more strenghtening excersises I would love to

learn them--I would also love to avoid a trip ti my PT...Thanks, C

riotboy with chondro here,

If I understand you correctly you are sitting in a chair with your

feet almost touching the floor. Then you lift you're feet up so that

your leg forms a straight line. I don't know where but I've read in a

couple of places that this is actually a damaging exercise of the

cartilage in your knees.

What I've been recommend and read elsewhere is to lay down on your

back. Lift one leg straight up so that your heel is about 8 inches

from the floor or bed your laying on. Hold it for about 10 seconds

and repeat 10 or 20 times for each leg that is affected. Do about 3

sets of these. If the pain is directly above your kneecap towards the

inner part of your leg, make sure that your toes are slightly to the

right of your heel when you lift your leg. If the pain is above your

knee cap and to toward the outer side, make sure your toes point

inward so you can build up the illiotibial muscles which are

apparently weak relative to the others.

There is also an additional important exercise where you do squats

with your back flesh against a wall, slide down so that your legs

form not quite a perpendicular angle. Since my knee pain has been

mostly on the inner part of my leg just above the knee cap, a sports

therapist suggested that I pretend like I'm squeezing a soccer ball

with my legs to strengthen the weak muscles on the inner part of my

upper leg (quads?).

Another thing, you might want to do an " inter-library loan on a book

called " pain free " . It describes in detail what the symptoms of

osteoarthritis are, and it recommends a diet that reduces pain , and

prevents arthritis alltogether. Hopefully in the next couple weeks I

can add some more useful links to my website on this....

Hi,

Welcome to the group. Where are you in NY? I'm in Brooklyn. My daughter is

12 and she goes to middle school and is an inclusion program at and has been

since first grade. She is doing great.

Your son is only 29 months - thats around the time when amanda began speaking

a few words. She only signed a bit then too, but when she learned how to

speak she stopped signing and now at 12, she hardly shuts up! LOL

Welcome to the group again, hope you will love it here!
