Guest guest
, What do they do or how do they do the tendon release in the toes? The doctor didn't do all of my toes, because it took 4 hours to do the rest of my foot. She told me she would do the rest of the toes when I was ready. I am not sure I want to have her do them. Are you glad you had your toes done?
Guest guest
, Yes I'm glad I had the tendon release on my toes. Since I have hammer toes I was walking on the tips of my toes and I was getting corns, callouses on the tips of the toes. I no longer have that problem, The surgery was out patient. He released the tendons, no stiches ! No pain involved because I was in a twilight sleep. I would definately do it again if I had another foot, fortunately two is all I have,
Guest guest
I am also considering toe surgery. A " tendon release " is a way to straightening toes, correct? I have a very hard time fitting my toes into most shoes. Even when I can fit into a shoe, there is alot of friction on the tops of my toes. Does a tendon release surgery totally straighten out the toes? What type of Doctor is best to do this type of surgery? Orthopedic Surgeon or Podiatrist? Is a tendon release permanent? The reason I am asking so many questions about this is because I was considering toe surgery about 8 years ago, but received differing opinions from various doctors, I got frustrated and gave up (for a while). Last year, for other reasons, I had a minor surgery on one small toe (to drop the toe down). A podiatrist did the surgery and while the toe did move down a little, I was hoping the procedure would work better. I am thinking that I probably need to seek the advice of an Orthopedic Surgeon who has experience with CMT feet/toes and not seek surgical advice from a podiatrist. Any ideas? Any input is greatly appreciated. Rob
Guest guest
Hi Rob- I had my toes straightened 7yrs ago. The best surgery I ever had. I had my ortho dr. and his podiatrist buddy. My feet were done in 2 seperate operations. And I went home very quickly after the surgeries. I'm terrified of being " put to sleep " so I had epiderals to make me numb and not sure what drugs I was given to fall asleep. he surgery makes it soooooo much easier to wear shoes and it did help my balance. Both my children also had the same surgery. Good luck to you. Barb Fl.
Guest guest
Thanks for the input. It really helps knowing somebody went through it and would do it all over again. It doesn't sound as bad as I thought it would be. I really haven't done alot of talking about it with my doctor, but since it is that simple I guess I will. Thanks again. Guest guest
Rob..... I went to a Podiatrist for my tendon release surgeries. He is also associated with the CMT association. The tendon release procedures will not straighten your toes completely. What my procedure did for me was take the pressure off of the tips of my toes, and straighten them some what. I do have better balance and I do not get callouses on the tips of my toes any loner . The callouses would turn into ulcers and that was horrible. The surgeries were about a year ago and the toes are doing very well! ..... Florida
