Antiprogesterone therapy could slow the progression of

Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease type 1A (CMT-1A), according to a team of

European researchers. In a proof-of-principle experiment, Klaus-Armin

Nave (Max-Planck Institute of Experimental Medicine, Go¨ttingen,

Germany) and colleagues describe how treatment of a rat model of CMT-1A

with a progesterone receptor antagonist improved the phenotype by

reducing overexpression of Pmp22, duplication of which underlies human

CMT-1A.
