Guest guest
Hi All, My husband has been asked to go to Ghana for 1-2 days in early June for work. Ghana requires the Yellow Fever Vaccine for entry. The only thing I can find is a Medical Contraindication to Vaccination section of the International Certificate of Vaccination or Prophylaxis (ICVP). So presumably if he can get a Doctor to sign one for him, maybe he could avoid it. But I can call the embassy to find out for sure. He had this same vaccine in 1997 to go to the ines, but unfortunately it is only " good " for 10 years. That was the last time he had any vaccines, and we do not intend to have any more. Does anyone have any recent experience/knowledge about this vaccine/risks/etc.? Vs. the risks of contracting yellow fever? I really hope he can get out of this trip... I have a real problem with him risking his life and health for something completely unnecessary. Thanks,
Guest guest
Yellow fever is a live virus vaccine. If your husband has reacted to any other live virus vaccine as flumist, MMR, chicken pox, then he may have a chance at a medical exemption. Being a live virus vaccine, if he does get it, he can shed the virus to your and your family. ~ Maureen R. Guest guest
yes it is required for Ghana - even if coming from the US, I see http://wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel/destinations/ghana.htm Vaccine info here: https://www.vaccineshoppe.com/image.cfm?doc_id=5991 & image_type=product_pdf " {CONTRAINDICATIONS Hypersensitivity YF-VAX vaccine is contraindicated in anyone with a history of acute hypersensitivity reaction to any components (including gelatin).22 Because the yellow fever virus used in the production of this vaccine is propagated in chicken embryos, YF-VAX vaccine should not be administered to anyone with a history of acute hypersensitivity to eggs or egg products; anaphylaxis may occur. Less severe or localized manifestations of allergy to eggs or to feathers are not contraindications to vaccine administration and do not usually warrant vaccine skin testing (see PRECAUTIONS section, Hypersensitivity Reactions subsection). Generally, persons who are able to eat eggs or egg products may receive the vaccine. 2,23 " f I'd say I had severe anaphylactic shock from eggs It would be good to not go Sheri At 10:55 AM 5/7/2012, you wrote: Hi All, My husband has been asked to go to Ghana for 1-2 days in early June for work.
