Guest guest
So I am originally from Brazil and work for our county's Public Health department (in USA I mean). In Brazil the BCG (vaccine against tuberculosis) is mandatory, while Americans don't take it. Because I had 3 doses of the vaccine in Brazil (before I came to USA), every time I get a PPD test I test positive. Because I have obviously been exposed to TB through vaccine. I usually have to get an x-ray every 2ys to show my lungs are clear. No Brainer. This year my PPD came back positive for TB. As ALWAYS. And there was a huge commotion. There is some new study that says that if I had the shot more than 5ys ago, I should NOT show positive anymore. So I am sitting at the Public Health office, arguing that I need my income and can't be off work until the end of June, when the Doctor is able to see me. I tell them that NO, the vaccine should last more than 5 years because in Brazil I would need a boost every 10 years, and it hasn't been 10 years... Well... At this time, the main vaccine person turns to me and say: " well you see... it doesn't work this way... Lets take by example Pertussis. It is very common that a whole population will be immunized for it with a DTAP or some other vaccine (don't remember name), and we will still have whole population sick with pertussis. Happens all the time. HAVING A VACCINE DOES NOT GUARANTEE IMMUNITY. So you could have tuberculosis even though you have a vaccine. " OK... SHOCKER!!! The person in the County's Public Health department, who IS responsible for vaccinations, who argues in favor of vaccines, is now telling me this???? REALLY???? so THEY know it?? and give me BS about it occasionally.... Is that an irony or what?
Guest guest
Don't they know the CDC's recommendations on thisis for a blood test rather than the skin test? Wouldn't they follow their own government's policies since they are both the government??? (http://www.cdc.gov/tb/topic/testing/default.htm) "IGRAs are the preferred method of TB infection testing for the following: People who have received bacille Calmette–Guérin (BCG). BCG is a vaccine for TB disease. Guest guest
I am going to request the blood test at appointment. I am just frustrated. I am also annoyed that I am sometimes harassed about my vaccination choices (which I justify as being religious, as I am in NYS), just to to be told that no, vaccines actually do not work as should, and thats why I was not really immunized against TB... Duhhh Can't change rules like that > >So I am originally from Brazil and work for our county's Public > >Health department (in USA I mean). > >In Brazil the BCG (vaccine against tuberculosis) is mandatory, while > >Americans don't take it. Guest guest
I would be frustrated, too. I mean, really. If they admit the vaccines don't work, yet push them anyway, what else are they wrong about? TB tests??
